Founded by visionary winemaker Eben Sadie, Sadie Family Wines is a leading South African estate built on the philosophy that winemaking begins with responsible agriculture and a deep relationship with the land. Based in the Swartland, the domaine is committed to farming practices that prioritize long-term environmental stewardship, sustainability, and respect for terroir.

The estate farms approximately 51 hectares, including 24 hectares of its own vineyards alongside additional parcels cultivated by the Sadie team. Yields are intentionally kept low to ensure concentration and quality. Guided by the belief that great wine emerges from a close relationship between soil, climate, vines, and people, Sadie Family Wines has earned international recognition for producing expressive, terroir-driven wines that capture the character of South Africa’s vineyards while maintaining a strong commitment to responsible farming and environmental stewardship.

The Rotsbank Vineyard, perched on a shallow rock shelf in Aprilskloof, Paardeberg, produces remarkably concentrated fruit as roots penetrate the cracks of the rugged terrain.

The 2024 Chenin displays aromas of gunflint and seaweed, with tropical granadilla and a touch of green tea. The palate is linear and firm, finishing with drying tannins, exceptional length, and refined elegance. Slightly reserved on release, the wine benefits from aeration if opened early.

Press Reviews

James Suckling

98 Points - Claire Nesbitt, Deputy Tasting Editor

This steely, mineral chenin is somewhat restrained, showing aromas of lemon rind, crushed rocks, thyme and pears, but it’s compact, full of tension and concentrated on the palate, with a medium to full body and racy acidity. I love the sharpness and minerality. This will age. The third edition of this wine. Chenin blanc from a historic vineyard with rocky soils. Try after 2026.

96 Points - Neal Martin

The 2024 Rotsbank comes from Chenin planted at the back of the property, according to Sadie, the only one of twelve vineyards he works with that obtains a flintiness. This has fine lift on the nose with light petrolly, almost Riesling-like scents that evolve into more wet wool/lanolin scents with aeration. Fine delineation. The palate is very well balanced with a keen thread of acidity. Bright & sapid in the mouth, it gains weight and a little texture towards the extended finish. Excellent.
