Mas Carlot

Mas Carlot is situated in the south of the Rhône Valley, extending across 76 hectares of pebbly land southeast of Nîmes. Originally a 17th century farm, this beautiful estate was resurrected in the 1960's by the Blanc family—it is currently run Cyril Mares of the neighbouring and equally reputable property, Mas Bressades.
The appellation of Costières de Nîmes used to be considered part of eastern Languedoc but the climate, soil, topography and wine are far closer to those just over the river in the Southern Côtes du Rhône. It is now a region very much on the up and is widely recognized as a great source of excellent value wine.

Azienda Agricola Tessari

The Tessari family have Soave in their blood. For three generations they have been extracting delectable wine from the well cared for vines of their Monteforte d’Alpone vineyards. With only a little over a hectare of Garganega grapes in the prestigious volcanic solis of Soave Classico, Antonio Tessari hand dug his cellar back in 1933 and started the legacy that continues today with his grandchildren: Germano, Antonio and Cornelia.
From vineyard to bottle, these three siblings oversee it all; with unwavering respect for tradition, quality and passion for the art of winemaking. The volcanic soils of the hillside are rich with basaltic rocks and clays, which guarantees the health of the plant and the promotes the mineral and floral aromas that are characteristic of the Garganega grape. Truly artisanal wine making at it’s best.

This shows the vivid yellow colour I expect from good Soave. It also shows the complex, detailed nose honeysuckle, lemon blossom, camomile and almost tropical peach/mango fruit. It is mid-weight, rich and viscous yet shows some enlivening freshness, spritz and tenderness at the same time. Slightly bitter and lemony on the finish. The length is excellent. Tasted January 2023.
90 points (2021) - Michael Godel
The latest volcanically driven garganega from the Tessari family is a child of a promising vintage full of sun, fun and support. The sky is the limit for just how well this will drink and please. It is in fact bottled salty and fruit crunchy deliciousness and why shouldn’t it be? Made simply with tradition in mind, basalt in pocket and all the modern facility made available. Citrus and nectarine, basil and Maldon salt. Lime all over the finish. Spot on. Drink 2023-2025. Tasted January 2023.
4 Stars (2022)- Sara d'Amato
Nervy and salty with a dash of elderflower and pear, this stylish Soave Classico is a favourite of restauranteurs. Richly textured with notes of apple and lemon zest, salt and lime. Quite chalky and dry, with a pleasant degree of roundness despite the moderate level of alcohol. Nicely balanced with a pleasant finish of good length. Drink now. Tasted January 2023.

Azienda Agricola Jasci

Located on the hills that rise 250 meters above sea level from the Adriatic Sea just above the seaside resort town of Vasto in Abruzzo, here the Jasci family has been growing grapes and producing wine for three generations. Starting In the early 1960s, Pasquale and Maria turned the focus of their farm to producing estate wines.
In 1980, their son Giuseppe decided to convert the farm to organic, becoming one of the first ten wineries in all of Italy to be certified. Today led by grandson Donatello Jasci and his wife Piera, the family is the second largest single grower in all of the region. Donatello’s approach in the cellar is consistent with his farming: clean and simple. The wines see little or no oak and have a purity of flavor that is rare at the price. In addition to his duties at the winery, Donatello Jasci has served as President of the local Organic Growers’ Consortium.

From vines near to the village of Vasto at 250m on hillsides above the Adriatic. Usually light, crisp and simply refreshing but 2024 takes it just a bit further. More luxe feels and phenolic grip this time for a pecorino that actually shows off a little bit of its varietal woolliness. Great persistence and length for an “entry-level” example with proof that Jasci does not mess around when quality is at stake. Drink 2026-2028. Tasted February 2026.

Good volume and fruity depth here on this southern Rhône from Mas Carlot, richly flavoured, properly sapid, and saliva-inducing. I like the broad and rich palate, the long finish. White-fleshed orchard fruit leads and lingers. Top notch, and lovely. Tasted January 2024.

This golden southern Rhône blend is charmingly ripe and fleshy, even comforting, with notes of apples, tangerines, lychee, and toasted bread. Pago Aylés

Pago Aylés was founded by Federico Ramón, who in 2003 began his dream of classifying this unique land as the first Vino de Pago in the Aragon region. In the Spanish wine quality pyramid, the Pago stands as a top tier or grand cru winery. Just before Federico died, his dream came true in 2010, as Aylés became the 10th Vino de Pago in Spain.
Today his three children continue to produce wines from this special land. The vineyard site has a long history of winemaking, dating back to the 12th century by Spanish monks. Influenced by the River Huerva and the Monte San Pablo mountain, the soil is a mixture of clay, limestone and chalk – ideal for making high-quality wine. Caves, ravines and old river beds can be found all over the estate, which is brimming with wildlife.

A deliciously ripe and fruity, sweet oak-inflected red from Aragón, a blend ("coupage") of merlot, garnacha, tempranillo and cabernet sauvignon. Dark plummy fruit, vanilla and dark chocolate flavours dominate with a dash of savoury herbs . I find it still a little tight and astringent, and would cellar another 2-3 years for additional softening; the sweet fruit will appeal widely no doubt. Bonus: certified organic. Tasted January 2026.

Labelled as Vino de Pago, this wine comes from a single estate and is an organic blend of merlot, garnacha, tempranillo, and cabernet sauvignon grown on clay and calcareous soils at 500–700 m in Aragon, northeastern Spain. It shows some oak influence and a warming 14.5% alcohol, yet the palate is surprisingly balanced, filled with zesty, jammy red and black fruit. Licorice, white pepper, cedar spice, concentrated violet, and a hint of black tapenade add complexity. Very good length completes a wine that’s generous in flavour but lighter than expected on the finish. Tasted January 2026.

Punset

While the vineyards that form Punset have been farmed by the Marcarino family for generations, it is truly thanks to Marina and her incredible energy that the estate is how it is nowadays. In the 1980s, she decided to pursue organic farming – a demanding choice that was rewarded by becoming the first estate to receive the organic certification in Italy. Her passion for the soil and the environment led her to embrace biodynamics and the agronomic philosophy of Manasobu Fukuoka. From one of the healthiest vineyards in Italy, Marina crafts wines that brim with life, energy, and pure terroir.
Known for the very first certified organic Barbaresco of Italy, Marina continues to show the world that you can preserve tradition and think of the future simultaneously.

Casa Los Frailes

Casa Los Frailes is located in the valley called “land of Alforins”, south west inland province of Valencia, with average altitude of 650-700 meters above sea level. The valley is located between two mountains range, on the east the Mediterranean Sea (50km) and on the west the main “plateau” of La Mancha. Casa Los Frailes (“Cals Frares” in old valencian local language) takes their name from the Jesuit Friars that used to live in the Estate over two centuries (XVII to XVIII). The Casa Los Frailes estate now belongs to the Velázquez family and has for over 250 years, today the 13th generation runs the winery.
Frontrunners in organic agriculture and biodynamics, the estate consists of 162 hectare with vineyards, Mediterranean forest, almond and olive trees and a unique terroir. The main variety was (and still is) the Monastrell, cultivated in bush vines. "As inheritors of such legacy, we believe our wines should be part and transmit the history of our estate, as this history is obviously unique. In today's interconnected world, wines are more and more uniform, but we are committed to elaborate authentic and different wines, loyal to our personality and our history."

Here's an organic, estate grown blend of monastrell (mourvedre) and syrah from a fairly high altitude site in south-eastern Spain. It has a fairly lifted nose of blueberry, a certain meatiness I associate with mourvedre, lifted pine/rosemary greenness and sundried tomato. It is quite full bodied, but juicy acidity and warmth cut through. A bit rough and rustic but the flavour delivery is excellent. Great value. Tasted July 2020

A singular blend in every respect, haughty, breadth from aromatics to flavours, verdant notes and very meaty. Cured meat, smoked meat and charred as well. A firm Chianti Classico, brightened by the purity of red fruit, simultaneously vibrant and structured. Gentle notes of tilled earth and new leather complement the cherry-driven palate, lifted by lively freshness. Fine-grained yet firm tannins frame the wine’s emerging youthful complexity. 2023 is a fine vintage for Calcinaia's entry point "Cappone" bottling of Chianti Classico (owned by the current conte, or count, Cappone), ripe and generous but also clearly delineated and precise, with textbook savoury cherry flavours, red and black, and comfortably ripe tannins and acids. There's a pleasant ease and accessibility on the palate, an inviting profile that will be best enjoyed over the next 2-3 years. Textbook; certified organic as a bonus. Tasted January 2026.

Unexpected would indicate that strange things are forecast to occur but this garnacha from the large and historical Finca Aylés estate in Cariñena pretty much does the expected. Delivers dark varietal fruit with a mineral streak as salty as it is firm. Crunchy garnacha, full bodied and flavoured for the foreseen and well, expected. Garnacha of empowerment, helping consumers trust themselves and their palates and opinions, ultimately enabling them to confidently make wine purchasing decisions. Drink 2025-2027. Tasted March 2025.

From a large and distinguished vineyard, this is a very smart and delicious garnacha. The ripe sweet almost candied nose black cherry, pomegranate juice is also quite floral. Oak is nicely in the background with a hint of mocha and spice. It is quite full bodied and rounded, but also has enough warmth and acidity to give it a sense of freshness and stability. The length is excellent. Might be a bit confected for some. Chill a bit. Last tasted Jan 2026

This vegan garnacha from Aragón is almost lavishly fruity, with an engaging array of red fruit, some lightly candied. Undertones of woody spices and violet petals add to its appeal. The palate is supple, with juicy acidity, subtle warmth, and a gentle viscosity that lends it a sense of fullness. I really like the woody herbal note that lingers on the long finish. Bold, easy-to-like, and full of varietal character, this garnacha should ideally be enjoyed over the next year or so. Tasted January 2026.

A full-throttle yet effortlessly pleasing and typical garnacha. White pepper, violets, strawberry, and black currant lead the charge. Clean, stylish, and modern, with a mouthwatering degree of juiciness. At 13.5% alcohol, it sits on the moderate end for the variety, making it notably more food-friendly than the norm. Stéphane Aviron

Stéphane Aviron can be considered a pioneer in his approach to winemaking in Beaujolais, however he would just tell you that he’s simply returning to the traditional practices that have always made fantastic Gamay wines. Sustainable viticulture, extremely old vines and classic Burgundian techniques. He focuses on the Beaujolais village crus, all but forgotten gems of vineyards when the nouveau craze took over, which are the best sites for unique, expressive and terroir driven wines. All of the fruit is sourced from old vines (40+ years), so seeing Vieilles Vignes on the label is a rite of passage, not a privilege. Authenticity and a distinctly Beaujolais style of winemaking is what sets Stéphane apart from the rest.

Weingut Matthias Hager

The Hager Matthias winery is located in the small village of Mollands in the Kamptal area of Lower Austria. Matthias took over the 12-hectare land and the family business at an early age. He aims to produce the best quality wine possible and to focus on being in balance with nature. The lands are cultivated according to biodynamic principles and are certified Demeter.
Matthias has a vast knowledge about plants and insects, and about keeping the flora and fauna in harmony with the vines. Matthias Hager is one of the most experimental winemakers in the Kamptal region, Austria. He understood early how to work with different soil types from loess to clay. He established different product lines to highlight these differences: the blue one representing fresh, lively wines including Grüner Veltliner and Sauvignon Blanc; and the brown line gravitating towards more earthy, flavourful produce and the red line stands for no sulphites!

Cut above energy and buzz from the Hager Matthias grüner veltliner, once again pumping up the aromatic volume, even more CO2 varietal buzz and kinetic, if this time frenetic energy. Subtlety be darned, caution to the wind and thrown out the window for an Austrian white with serious game. Château de Montfaucon

Just across the Rhone river from the beautiful vineyards of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the Lirac appellation extends itself on the low hills alongside the river. The history of Château de Montfaucon dates back to the 11th century when the castle's first tower was built. The castle's role in history was strategic; the Rhône River was the border between the French Kingdom and the Holy Roman German Empire. Montfaucon was one of many castles and fortresses along the Rhône River constructed to guard the border.
Rodolphe de Pins took over the family estate of Montfaucon in 1995 and subsequently rebuilt the winery and began practicing sustainable agriculture. He honed his winemaking skills in Barossa at Henschke and Vieux Telegraphe in Châteauneuf du Pape before returning to Lirac, so needless to say, his familiarity with the local varieties is well established.

This is a blend of usual suspects among the white grapes of southern France with marsanne leading at 40% followed by clairette at 35%. It was fermented and aged in French oak barrels which accounts for the quite deep yellow gold colour. The nose is rather reserved but exotic and complex with waxy notes, apricot, orange peel, honey and wood spice. It is full bodied, almost thick, creamy and warming with 13.5% abv. Quite a mouthful, with some sense of wood tannin on the finish. Needs very rich savoury dishes. Excellent length. Tasted Nov 2025

Comtesse Madeleine is a blend of marsanne and clairette with lesser amounts of grenache blanc and picpoul, likely named for Marie-Madeleine Pioche de la Vergne, comtesse de La Fayette, a 17th century French writer known for La Princesse de Clèves. Profound is once again the first word to slip from the tongue because neither Lirac nor Côtes du Rhône are normally poised to offer such substantial qualities. Aside from the flinty opening salvo there are wisps and whispers of aromatic complexities in between, all ahead of a maturity and knowing experience showing prominently at the finish. Once again gastronomical scents, of porchetta, herbs and other aromatics coming from this meatiest of white wines. Begins slower and takes longer to reveal its charms than the previous vintage tasted but once momentum makes gains then the stirring is activated. The finish is long and true. Drink 2025-2029. Tasted November 2025.
90 points - Sara d'Amato
This blend of marsanne, clairette, grenache blanc and picpoul, aged 8 months in oak barrels, is named in homage to Madeleine de Montfaucon, grandmother of current owner Rodolphe de Pins, who stewarded the estate for over 60 years. The wine offers a gently aromatic profile: floral notes, fresh linen, a touch of musk, and yellow fruit recalling mirabelle plum. Lanonlin and a lively mineral edge keep it fresh. The palate is fleshy, with oak spice playing a minimal supporting role behind the fruit. Highly drinkable, it gains richness as it unfurls. Features a lingering finish of memorable length. Château de Parnay

Château de Parnay is the flagship of the AOC Saumur Champigny. The property is located along the Loire river, classified as UNESCO World Heritage, on the most reputable clay and limestone terroirs of the appellation. The historic property was taken over by Mathias Levron & Régis Vincenot in 2006 with the aim of restoring the nobility of this special place.
Drawing their strength from the authenticity of their values, they now cultivate 50 hectares of vines with the aim of producing exceptional wines in a way that respects the environment. They have been certified organic since 2013 and are about to be certified biodynamic too.
The Clos of Chemin des Murs is the jewel of the property! Coming from the imagination of it's orginal owner, Antoine Cristal, this Clos was built, planted and cultivated according to an unprecedented technique. On this half hectare of Chenin Blanc, each vine was planted on the north face of a stone wall. Through a hole in the stone the vine crosses through the wall and allowing the grapes to grow facing the southern sunshine. The vine is said to have its 'foot in the cool and belly in the sun'.

This is a concentrated, complex, gracefully balanced cabernet franc. Notes of ripe red plums, blackberries, dark cherries, tobacco, dried leaves, and violets are interwoven here to form an elegant, engaging, and varietally representative flavour profile. The palate is densely flavoured but lithe, with fine-grained tannins and refreshing acids. The finish is long, layered, and captivating. This is a serious cab franc indeed - not so much in terms of weight and power, but in its complexity, poise and length. It’s a deeply coloured for franc. The nose shows fine, ripe raspberry, perfectly pitched by fresh herbs, tobacco and violet. It is loosely structured mid-palate, and a touch warm, with slightly green tannin. The length is excellent. I would age it a year or three. Tasted January 2024

Silky and refined, elegant but dense, this Saumur Champigny (cabernet franc) is a substantial and serious wine, with a high degree of textbook regional character, complete with a touch of green-herbal, varietal flavour. Tannins are fine and dusty, acids gently salty, and length good to very good. I'd suggest another year or two in the cellar to further refine the texture and develop complexity - potential I think is high. Tasted January 2024.

About the Winery
Bodegas Puiggròs

Since 1843, the Puiggros family has been producing wines from their own vines in the Odena region of Catalunya for the family and close friends. Over generations they had come to realize that their vineyards and techniques were something worth sharing with the world. A sincere dedication to the terroir in their zone and the indigenous varieties that grow there, allows them to constantly discover ways to unlock all of the magic that lies within their land.
Starting with conscious and clean farming in the vineyard, they hand-harvest only the best fruit for their production, and ferment each vineyard separately in varying vessels to accentuate what the vines have to show; some in stainless steel, and many in clay amphora of differing sizes. All the while seeing very little sulfur use (if any) until bottling. Puiggros is pushing the quality of northeastern Spain's wines forward, and doing so in a clean and unique way.

Of Catalonian garnatxa blanca planted upwards of 600m on limestone and clay before aging judiciously inside 800L clay amphora. A going concern of method and style for white grenache in this northerly part of Spain and 2023 comes away as clean and fleshy as any previous vintages. Sapid with an herbal-botanical element while fruit is so bloody persistent in its ability to shine. These are the right kinds of tonics and bitters to fulfill a garnacha raised in amphora dream. Drink 2025-2028. Tasted November 2025.

High-elevation white garnacha raised in amphora, delivering a juicy and engaging profile in eye-catching packaging. Clean, bright, and subtly salty with flavours of peach, lemon zest, chamomile and dried herbs. It's nervy and deceptively complex, finishing with a gentle swell of warmth from otherwise unassuming alcohol. Excellent length. Drink now or hold 2-3 years. Tasted November 2025.

A captivating chenin blanc from Saumur, famed for its calcareous "tuffeau" soils, among others, on which chenin blanc can reach showstopping heights. The aromatics are dizzying here with spring blossom, honeysuckle, ginger and lemongrass hitting the nose with staggered entry. The texture is equally alluring with a juxtaposition of mineral, freshness and viscosity resulting in a dynamic interplay. Expressive with memorable length. Tasted August 2022.

This is from a leading Saumur producer of Loire chenin blanc with vines planted in calcerous clay soils near the Loire River outside of classical town. It is both rich and delicate, a juxtaposition I find in some of the world's best whites. It is not however an intense, flashy, acid and mineral driven chenin. Fermentation in neutral barrels has created a pale gold hue and softened the nose to gentle honeyed, spicy state along with ripe pear/apricot jam fruit. It is medium-full bodied, smooth and dry, almost creamy, with the grape's acidity and minerality arriving more on the finish. The complexity and length are excellent, with a touch of wood spice and bitterness as well. Tasted August 2022

Villa Calcinaia is situated in the centre of Chianti Classico near the town of Greve-in-Chianti. This historic estate has been home to the Counts Capponi since 1524, and is maintained by Sebastiano Capponi and his brother Niccolo. In 1992, Count Sebastiano Capponi became the first in the history of the family to manage the winery personally, giving a new life to the vineyards and the cellar.
The family owns 200 hectares of land planted with olive trees, vines and pine trees. Organic farming is the standard at Villa Calcinaia where 75 acres of vineyard are planted with Sangiovese, Merlot, Canaiolo, Grechetto, Vernaccia, Trebbiano, and Malvasia. Through every vintage, the wines are crafted with food in mind. They are balanced, elegant, perfumed, and savoury yet refreshing with restrained vigour and intensity that ensures longevity.

Loamy with Alberese grip and warmth from a season of unavoidable truth to gift darker fruit. Namely sangiovese with 10 percent canaiolo to level out the balance between pH and acidity for harmony and elasticity. Feels like success out of a challenge presented. Last tasted October 2025.
The current vintage for the winery and cellar built circa 1763 by Ferdinand Capponi is undeniably aromatic in the ways of this estate’s consistent Chianti Classico Annata from the west bank above the Greve River. A mix of humid concrete, herbal brush, Amaro and nut toasty warmth. Shakes of silty salt and white pepper for a seasoned Annata grown, raised and bottled for all the good reasons. Drink 2026-2029. Domaine Frédéric Brouca

Frédéric grew up in Normandy and met his Canadian wife Elaine at university in Lille, Northern France. They live a nomadic lifestyle (Canada, India, Singapore and USA) though Frédéric spends about half of his time in Faugères. Since early age, Frédéric had a calling for farming and the fierce desire to become a winegrower. After completing a Masters Degree in Finance in 2001, Frédéric went back to college for a Sommelier diploma and started his career as a Burgundy wine broker.
In late 2012, Frédéric and Elaine were fortunate to take over 25 acres of old vines in Faugères, organically farmed for twenty years and deeply rooted in schist soils.
2013 was the inaugural vintage for Domaine Frédéric Brouca. In his modest winery in the village of Laurens, Frédéric is creating a new vision for Faugères wines; fresh, vibrant and made without artifice. Nothing revolutionary, simply returning to our grandparent's ideology of farming and winemaking to craft 'Vins Vivants'. The Faugères Appellation is in the heart of Languedoc in the Hérault department. Here, winemaking dates back to the Greek times and was developed during the Roman Era. It wasn't until the early 1900's, however, that the wines became more widely known for its unique schist soils and moderate Mediterranean climate. These villages are heavily reliant on wine as an important part of their culture and economy.
The area is stunning with mountain views and close proximity to the Mediterranean Sea (20 miles / 30 kms). Faugères has a long history of responsible farming. It boasts the highest percentage of organic vineyards for any AOC in all of France with almost 50% of farmers making the choice.

A vermentino (rolle), roussanne, grenache blanc blend from Frederic Brouca's Languedoc operation with a decidedly natural leaning, this is nonetheless a very stable and clean, sapid and saline wine with terrific succulence and plenty of white fleshed orchard fruit, apple and pear, white flowers and sweet herbs. There's plenty of complexity and pleasure on offer, and length and depth are excellent in the category. Lovely stuff that will satisfy the natty crowd, but also those who put top quality above philosophy, a winning formula. Drink or hold 2-4 years - seems to be moving slowly. Tasted January 2026.

The Hérault work of Normandy-born Frédéric Brouca brings elements of natural winemaking, experimentation and fantasy, especially to his whimsical bends, as here with grenache blanc, roussanne and vermentino. The IGP of Hérault in the Languedoc-Roussillon on the southern coast of France is the source and Brouca brings forth his cleanest white of utmost purity and clarity for 2024. Fresh is the understatement and overworked the over because this just feels like grapes layered for all the right reasons and without any obfuscation. Energetically charged, dry with notes of lemon and honeycomb, a honeysuckle floral addition and all that matters for what truly works. Drink 2026-2029. Tasted January 2026.

This is an organically grown, Mediterranean blend of vermentino, roussanne, and grenache blanc grapes grown on schist soils in the south of France. It was fermented in a mix of concrete, stainless steel, and neutral oak barrels. It shows a soft, complex nose of peach, banana, yellow flower and wet stone with some bready/leesy character. It is medium-full bodied, nicely rounded but not too soft or sweet. Nice dry grip and warmth on the finish. The length is excellent and there is a sense of completion. Tasted January 2026

Frédéric Brouca reportedly takes a low-intervention approach to viticulture and winemaking. This blend of vermentino, roussanne, and grenache blanc was fermented in mixed media including concrete, stainless steel, and neutral oak barrels. There is complexity and nuance on display here, including favours orchard, stone, and citrus fruit. The palate is supple and sprightly, in a pleasing way - the sensation of fullness lifted by lively acidity and a hint of bitterness. This sense of freshness continues on the finish. Today the vineyard sites which spread over 4 villages, Monforte D’Alba, Serralunga D’Alba, Novello and Barolo are all managed directly with the entire agronomic work done manually. Strong sustainable vineyards conduction, certified organic, they believe that their biggest challenge is not inventing anything but just define and express the beauty of the land where they live.
Behind every glass of wine there is an expression, expression of terroir, varietal, the varietal is for them everything, indigenous, they speak of the land and, last but not least, passion for what they do. Simply as that.

The name is Grey, representative three ways, of Réva’s Bianco label, the earth as its life giver and a sauvignon blanc meeting sauvignon gris growing from the Langhe “formation lequio.” In other words ancient Serravallian terroir come into being some 12 million years ago. Translates today as clay, limestone and fossil, adding up to and defined as grey marl. Just smells like wet stones, rich in mineral, as if after a rain. A place where ripeness means abundant and substantial fruit in cohorts with and defending the “sottosuolo” of elements below to do more than merely simulate but actually effect an authentic Langhe experience. Drink 2025-2030. Tasted May 2025

This is a blend of sauvignon blanc and sauvignon gris - a highly unusual wine for the Langhe region, but a specialty of the youthfully re-imagined Reva estate in Montforte. It is an impressive, full flavoured, generous and well balanced wine with lifted aromas of guava/lychee, lemon and fresh herbs. It is very bright with lively acidity, considerable warmth and juicy, tart-edged finish. The length is excellent. A bit aggressive in the end so chill well. Tasted May 2025

Réva's Langhe Bianco "Grey" is composed of 70% Sauvignon Gris and 30% Sauvignon Blanc, related but considered separate varieties, the former less effusively aromatic than the blanc version. It pours a pale-medium yellow gold colour, and offers maturing, bruised pineapple and binned apple aromatics in an advancing style, purposely no doubt considering Réva's commitment to natural winemaking and low intervention. It's also notably herbal, like dried mint or cold mint tea, fresh celery and other non-fruity components on a fairly rich and full-bodied frame with palpable extract - tannins - that provide some grip. Despite the advancing flavours, I'd recommend another year or two in the cellar for the palate to smooth out, and since it's not about the fruit in any case, those flavours will continue to develop in the savoury spectrum. Length is very good. Tasted May 2025.

Exedra Negre is 100% Garnatxa (Catalan for grenache) planted on limestone and clay soils at 500 meters. Part is fermented in large concrete, part in amphora. It pours fairly pale but bright ruby. The aromas are classic grenache strawberry jam with fine, subtle array of tobacco, pepper and herbs in the background. It is medium weight, fresh, balanced and almost refined - not really showing its 14.5% alcohol except for a slight kirsch flavour to the fruit on the finish. The length is excellent. Chill a bit. Tasted January 2026.

Warm vintage for garnatxa aged in clay-pot (amphora) from Odena’s limestone and clay soils at 500m in the shadow of the Montserrat massif. Consistent sweet red candied fruit aroma, always alluring and quite naturally so. The amphora does not take over the character but seems to simply allow the land to do the talking. Drink 2026-2029. Tasted January 2026.
90 points - John Szabo, MS
Pure grenache vinified and aged in amphora, the wine shows oxidative aromatics, candied/dried fruit and shoe polish, more advanced than one would hope for at this relatively young age. The palate is nonetheless, silky-smooth and broadly appealing, soft and round as it is, generous without heaviness. I like the saline nature that encourages another sip and brings the fruit and wild herb flavours into sharper relief. Acids are equally helpful in framing the ensemble. In the end it works nicely; drink over the near term to capture the fading freshness. Tasted January 2026.

This is tasting beautifully now with strawberry, cedar, and hazelnut character. It’s medium-bodied with firm tannins that need to soften. But very pretty already. Drinkable now, but better in two or three years. Try after 2024.

Blue flower, underbrush and wild herb aromas mix with a whiff of tobacco. Racy and linear, the palate offers sour cherry, star anise and a hint of rusted iron alongside taut, close-grained tannins that leave a drying finish.
