While the vineyards that form Punset have been farmed by the Marcarino family for generations, it is truly thanks to Marina and her incredible energy that the estate is how it is nowadays. In the 1980s, she decided to pursue organic farming – a demanding choice that was rewarded by becoming the first estate to receive the organic certification in Italy. Her passion for the soil and the environment led her to embrace biodynamics and the agronomic philosophy of Manasobu Fukuoka. Mainly dolcetto (70 per cent) with barbera and nebbiolo. Not much of the latter but necessary to widen the expression of the Langhe. Here it’s an explanation point, not a question, as in a confirmation of the exclamatory Piedmontese expression. Bright red amalgamated fruit with proper acidity and the ability to work alongside anyone and all. Drink 2019-2022. Tasted November 2019.

Réva
Réva is a winery based in Monforte D’Alba, within the Langhe area, in Piedmont, west northern Italy. Its aim is to bring the most brilliant young people of the area together, entrusting them with the task of expressing themselves in the most creative and professional way possible. This is Réva’s Wave, a dynamic team that represents the new Langhe generation, in constant communication with tradition, without the fear of reinterpreting it.
Today the vineyard sites which spread over 4 villages, Monforte D’Alba, Serralunga D’Alba, Novello and Barolo are all managed directly with the entire agronomic work done manually. Strong sustainable vineyards conduction, certified organic, they believe that their biggest challenge is not inventing anything but just define and express the beauty of the land where they live.
Behind every glass of wine there is an expression, expression of terroir, varietal, the varietal is for them everything, indigenous, they speak of the land and, last but not least, passion for what they do. Simply as that.

A light, lofty nebbiolo with an almost ethereal presence, even more so than the 2023 vintage. The fruit comes from San Sebastiano in Monforte d’Alba, rooted in clay and limestone soils, and undergoes a 17-day spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel before ageing for 12 months in Austrian oak.
On the palate, it shows finely textured, creamy tannins with a gentle, silty grip. There’s a clear minerality running through pure cherry-jelly fruit, carried by lively acidity. Fresh, poised, and effortlessly drinkable, it finishes with impressive length. Ready to enjoy now. Tasted July 2026.

The 2024 vintage of Reva's Langhe nebbiolo is lighter and livelier than the 2023, with more spring in its step. Bright, tart red berries and cherries are joined by herbs and spice. The light to medium bodied palate is supported by powdery tannins and sprightly acidity, also a small amount of carbon dioxide. Fruit, then spice linger on the long finish. I like the elegance and poise of this wine. Tasted July 2026.

Réva's 2024 Langhe nebbiolo is a clean, supple, juicy wine with relatively light, dusty tannins and typical red fruit flavours. Acids are comfortable, as is alcohol at 14% declared. Length and depth are solid. Although '24 was a challenging vintage in many respects, cool, wet and with high mildew pressure, I like the cooler, lighter styling overall, the way Langhe nebbiolo was back in the 1990s, not a monument but a pleasant and appealing wine for current enjoyment or short term hold. Tasted July 2026.

Note the cooler vintage, generally speaking, and yet if Réva’s nebbiolo is any indication, the lighter and brighter feeling gained is right here in this pleasure-gifting glass. Nice citrus display, red and orange, into pomegranate and currants. Tart Barolo with vintage tang, idiomatic of Monforte d’Alba and solid throughout. This is tasting beautifully now with strawberry, cedar, and hazelnut character. It’s medium-bodied with firm tannins that need to soften. But very pretty already. Drinkable now, but better in two or three years. Try after 2024.

A beautiful Barbareso from Neive that has already resolved quite dutifully and is just about ready to drink with philanthropy in the proverbial window. About the Winery
Piazzo Comm. Armando
The story of the Piazzo winery began in San Rocco Seno d’Elvio, a small outlying district of the town of Alba, in the 1960s.
Two newly-weds from families of farmers, Armando Piazzo and Gemma Veglia, decided together to carry on their family traditions by investing in a special terroir – the Langhe – which at the time was not yet renowned for its premium foods and wines. As a matter of fact, with the hard times the farming community were experiencing following the Second World War, the Langhe then were the land of local writer Fenoglio’s “La Malora” (The Ruin), and somewhere to escape from. For the Piazzos however, this was all the motivation they needed in order to start their own business.
Their foresight then led them to invest in the varietal which today produces some of the most highly-prized wines in the world: Nebbiolo.
Over the course of the years, many plots of land were purchased and converted for the growing of the varietal. Then in 1979 the first wine was made from the grapes they had placed so much faith in, and three years later it was to bear the name Barbaresco.
When their daughter Marina and her husband Franco joined Armando and Gemma in the business, they fell in love with this wonderful venture which was gradually becoming more established, and with their enthusiasm improvements were made that culminated in 1985 with the release of their first Barolo: another source of pride for the Piazzo family.
Along with the cellar’s reputation, the estate also grew in size. Today the vineyards extend over more than 70 hectares (170 acres), mostly located near the winery itself, but some in other municipalities: Mango, Neviglie, Guarene and Novello.

This wine shows more structure and texture compared to the Argè. That wine was centered on floral aromas, but the Piazzo Comm. Armando 2021 Barbaresco Pajorè holds its aromas closer to the ground with tilled earth, pulverized stone and iris root. It remains bright and focused throughout. Matured in French oak, its ends on a silky note with sweet cherry. I would suggest giving it a little bit more time to age. This is a production of just 2,100 bottles and bigger formats.
