Halliday Wine Companion
97 points - James Halliday
Sourced from adjacent rows of 40-year-old vines hand-pruned to control the yield to 5t/ha. Cold maceration and pressed direct to oak for 18 months in French hogsheads. This is a seriously good cabernet from an excellent vintage. Its length is exceptional, as is its structure and slinky tannins, part fruit, part oak.

This has racked up some big numbers from Australian critics, and I get it. It feels very much like a big, solid, structured and age-worthy cabernet, that should cost a lot more. And it has the drier ambiance of a Bordeaux. The aromas however are very much Coonawarra with chocolate mint, cassis, tobacco and some ferrous/iron minerality. It is full bodied, chunky and quite tannic, begging further ageing. The length however does not quite stand up, so I can't score it in the same high-90s realm as the Aussies. Tasted June 2026

Gorgeously styled and enticing, the wine shows cassis, dark cherry, cigar and cedar characters on the nose. The concentrated palate displays excellent flow and refined texture, splendidly framed by chalky tannins, finishing sturdy and persistent. At its best: now to 2036

It's instantly appealing on the nose with blackcurrant, sweet plum, clove, olive and subtle cocoa notes, followed by a wonderfully flavoursome palate offering ripe fruit intensity and refined texture. Upfront and delectably expressed, making it gorgeously drinkable. At its best: now to 2032

Sister's Run

Sister’s Run is serious fun. Their talented young winemaker Elena wears steel cap work boots every day of course, but carries a pair of high heels in back of the ute, only for emergencies, like last minute invitations to accept trophies at gala wine show dinners and the like.
Returning from a ‘knees-up’ at midnight, mid vintage, she managed to kick off one high heel and slip back into a boot’ just as the cellar crew cried out, ‘Run Sister Run’; and exactly then their winemaker and label took flight!
The stiletto and boot are Sister’s Run; an independently owned and operated winery with a fierce commitment to making the best wines they can from family vineyards. They don’t take ourselves as seriously as we take our wines, but agree with Elena, all you need to know about wine is the five ‘V’s and remember the best wine is the wine you like.

Inky hued, this is a densely packed Cab with concentrated black and red berry fruit, licorice, cedar and winter warming spice behind. It's as rich and mouth-filling on the palate as the color and aromas suggest, but with a lovely lift of tangy acidity to balance chiseled, powerful tannins.

This wine stays in its lane as a well priced, slightly sweet-edged ready-to-run cabernet. Expect quite lifted Aussie cab aromas of cranberry, chocolate mint and tobacco. It is medium-full bodied, smooth and generous with some warmth and a hint of sweetness. Tannins are quite fine for cabernet. The length is very good to excellent. Chill a bit. Last tasted June 2026
