Proudly family owned, the Borthwick vineyard is an established vineyard situated in Gladstone, the heart of the Wairarapa. Producing quality wine for over a decade, Paddy, an experienced wine maker, has gained a reputation for producing consistently great wines. The twenty seven hectares of vines bordering the Ruamahunga River are growing on stony, free draining, alluvial soils, with a micro climate giving warm daily temperatures, cool nights and low rainfall; perfect conditions for producing distinctive, quality wines

This Pinot highlights purity and freshness, offering bright aromas of red florals, spice, and juicy red fruit. Medium-bodied, the palate shows a vibrant mix of tart and sweet cherry framed by soft, velvety tannins. Subtle oak lends a gentle touch of chocolate to the finish, while a hint of spice adds lift and energy to the lingering aftertaste.

A perfect pairing for grilled quail, roasted chicken or the richness of pork shoulder. This wine can also stand up to glazed salmon or a decadent pizza with sweet potato, balsamic onions and soppressata.

93 Points - Sam Kim

Sweetly ripe and inviting, the bouquet shows dark cherry, plum, olive, and warm spice aromas. The palate displays juicy fruit intensity with supple texture and well-balanced tannins, making it beautifully harmonious with a lingering, tasty finish. At its best: now to 2028.

Lovely bouquet with ripeness of red berry fruits with a savoury earthy frame. Flavours of cherries and red plums, tart cherry and a strawberry compote idea. There’s a natural youthful tautness as the wine touches the palate - stemming from tannins and acidity, a contrast from red berry flavours and natural sweetness from oak and alcohol deliver contrast and style. Dry, moderate tannins and plenty of acidity, fruit flavours reflect the bouquet, a wine best enjoyed alongside food with best drinking from 2026 through 2030.
