Maison Valdesay is a collaborative project founded in 2016 by Frédéric Brouca. Its name, derived from Old French meaning “Valley of Hope,” reflects the spirit of the venture. Maison Valdesay partners with small-scale winegrowers in Northern Burgundy who cultivate old-vine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on distinctive clay soils layered with fossilized Portlandian and Kimmeridgian limestone. The aim is to craft refined Burgundies that offer exceptional value while honouring the region’s rich winemaking tradition.

The grapes for the 2023 cuvées are sourced from the southern reaches of Burgundy, where vineyards are planted on gentle hillsides at altitudes of 150 to 200 metres, with south to southeast exposure. The soils are a mix of calcareous, silty, and sandy compositions that contribute to the wines’ elegance and precision.

The Bourgogne Pinot opens with aromas of crushed berries, violets, and cherries, framed by subtle oak influence. The palate is pure and perfumed, with a mineral backbone—an authentic expression of classic Burgundy Pinot Noir.

89 Points - John Szabo, MS

Attractive, fragrant, light and fresh, with an almost carbonic (or whole bunch) fruity lift, designed for immediate appeal. It's well priced in its context and will provide lots of pleasure over the near term. Chill and go. Tasted March 2025.

89 points - Sara d'Amato

A bright and lively pinot noir with plenty of emphatic cherry fruit, substance and structure. Features firm tannins for pinot noir and well-balanced acids. Clean with youthful vigour. Best enjoyed after a short time in decanter or hold another year for a more relaxed expression. Tasted March 2025.
