Gilvesy winery is located in the outskirts of Lake Balaton, near an ancient dormant volcano, in Hungary. Robert Gilvesy, who was born in Tillsonburg, moved to his family's homeland from Canada to start this exciting project involving native grape varieties and volcanic soils.
It requires four full cases of each wine in order for us to build and fulfill four mixed cases. This process usually takes about 7-10 business days but may vary.
Each mixed case includes three bottles of each of the following wines:
3 bottles x Gilvesy Bohem Balatoni Cuvée 2021 (Lake Balaton, Hungary)
White | Olaszrizling, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc
This blend is light and fresh. On the nose, it's all about hints of mint, lemon and fresh cucumber, while on the palate it's zesty, with notes of green apple and citrus fruit. It's delicious when paired with summer meals: fresh salads dressed with dried fruits such as cranberries and walnuts, grilled fish with potatoes and zesty ceviches.
3 bottles x Gilvesy Tarányi Rajnai Rizling 2019 (Lake Balaton, Hungary)
White | Rajnai Rizling
The fruit for this wine comes from a single vineyard called Taranyi, the juice is fermented in oak barrels giving a bigger structure and personality to the wine. There is plenty of citrus, pear and white flowers on the nose. On the palate, it's medium-bodied and round, with reminiscences of sweet fruits and peaches in the finish. A great pairing for spicy dishes.
Pairing suggestion: Strong Indian and Asian spices are a perfect match with Riesling because of its delicate sweetness and vibrant acidity.
3 bottles x Gilvesy Váradi Vineyard Furmint 2019 (Lake Balaton, Hungary)
White | Furmint
Furmint is the historic grape of the region and this example shows its true strength. Alongside the white-fleshed fruit, the palate is also led by the intense spiciness and exciting flavours that come from the stony soil of the Váradi vineyard, and the Kádár barrels that were used for ageing it in. It has a complex character and long aging potential. A mineral wine with rich flavours and fresh acidity.
Pairing suggestion: Furmint complements herb-crusted poultry or fish. You can also try it with delicate Asian dishes like sushi or dumplings.
3 bottles x Gilvesy Sauvignon Blanc 2021 (Lake Balaton, Hungary)
White | Sauvignon Blanc
This is what Sauvignon Blanc from the volcanic soils of Szent György Hill can do when fermented in steel tanks and aged on fine lees. It is a perfect and classic cool climate example of Sauvignon Blanc with very gentle notes of fresh grass and green peppers, accompanied by savoury herbed aromas. The palate is bright and crisp with ripe citrus - lemon and lime.
Pairing suggestion: Pair this Sauvignon Blanc with light salads and fish dishes.
