Ahi Kāi is a pioneering Marlborough wine company focused on producing exceptional single-vineyard Sauvignon Blanc through ethical, long-term partnerships with growers. Founded by internationally acclaimed winemaker Matt Thomson, Master of Wine Sophie Parker-Thomson, and foundation grower John Blackmore, Ahi Kā challenges the region’s low-value, commodity-driven model by prioritizing quality, sustainability, and transparency. Their mission is to drive meaningful change in the Marlborough wine industry by delivering outstanding wines that celebrate provenance while ensuring growers are fairly rewarded for the quality they produce.
Ahi Kā is a concept rooted in Te Ao Māori, traditionally translating to “keep the home fires burning.” Historically central to land rights in early Aotearoa (New Zealand), it has evolved in a modern context to represent guardianship and sustainable stewardship; Caring for the land with the intention of passing it on to future generations in a better state than it was found. This single-vineyard expression showcases intense passionfruit and blackcurrant aromas from one of Marlborough’s most highly acclaimed sites. A true standout, the palate bursts with tropical fruit, balanced by vibrant acidity and a richly textured, saline-driven finish.
