This is a very pleasant, pretty and tidy pinot noir from Oregon - with nicely ripe cherry fruit inlaid with fine spicy, forest floor complexity. The nose is very appealing. It is mid-weight at most, nicely rounded and balanced with warmish alcohol and fine tannin. The fruit core and presence is impressive. The length is excellent. Tasted April 2023

Mature fruit in this triple P, substantial and upwards of at least eight out of ten on the phenolic scale as it pertains to the Willamette Valley. Some verdancy yet the right kind of green, like spring vascular plants that reproduce via spores and have neither seeds nor flowers. These are scents of roots, stems and leaves, earthy, twiggy and savoury, all together making for a truly authentic varietal experience. Good mid-palate weight, high level acidity yet feeling a tad boozy and also peppery upon the finish. Plenty of attack, mostly in balance, rising then culminating at a cymbaleer sound and brassy profile. Maybe let it rest a year. Drink 2024-2027. Tasted April 2023.

A properly lean and stony, white fleshed orchard fruit-flavoured pinot gris from the Willamette from Toronto locals Nicholas Pearce and Will Predhomme. I like the lean, slightly saline cool fruit profile, and the lingering finish - complexity is impressive in the price category. Well made and worth a look. Tasted June 2023.

This pours pale lemon. The nose is subtle yet quite alluring with peach, elderflower, vanilla, lemon and fine lees. It is medium weight, fresh and vibrant yet just off dry creating a honeysuckle effect. In its youth it is showing a touch of CO2 spritz that should dissipate by 2024. There is good fruit presence here with very good to excellent length. Tasted June 2023

Top fruit vintage no doubt for this pinot gris and yet the salty Willamette streak runs through like a vein cutting the flesh of pear and white peach. A really satisfying glass of white wine is just this though admittedly not as complex as might have been expected. No matter because the quench factor runs perfectly high. Drink 2023-2025. 2018 vintage: The latest in wine merchant Nicholas Pearce's negoce project (that counts 10 wines in three countries I believe) is this Columbia Valley cabernet sauvignon. Rue Naujac is the street Pearce lived on while studying and working in France and Bordeaux is the country's 33rd department. The reference "33" is slang for Bordeaux, a wink-wink, nudge-nudge laugh for those who know him. A blend of two different vineyards, one in Wahluke Slope AVA & the other in Horse Heaven Hills AVA. Deep, dark, unctuous, flowing with Cassis and no shortage of graphite notes neither. Good spirit and quite correct, better and more honest than most at the west coast price. Drink 2020-2024. Tasted July 2020.

2018 vintage: This is a quite tasty and delicious cabernet if veering into sweet territory. It is quite full bodied, smooth and dense, and balanced in that sense. The nose is very ripe with blackcurrant jam, spice and generous oak spice. It is full bodied, with some cabernet earthiness and dried herbs. Very good to excellent length. Tasted August 2020.

2018 vintage: A creation of Ontario importer Nicholas Pearce in partnership with a French winemaker with 30 years experience in Washington, Rue Naujac is the street Pearce lived on while studying/working in France, and Bordeaux is the country's 33rd department, both of which gave the inspiration for the name and lot # of this wine. It's made of pure Cabernet Sauvignon, 64% of which is from the coveted Wahluke Slope AVA, and 36% Horse Heaven Hills AVA, with 15% new oak used for maturation. It's crafted in a typically forward, plush and dark fruit flavoured Washington style, immediately engaging and appealing, with a vague sensation of sweetness on the palate to broaden appeal. Tannins are thick and velvety, while mocha-chocolate flavours fold into the fruit. Both sophisticated and approachable, a winning style all around, well priced. Tasted July 2020.

This widely available Oregon Pinot avoids the sort of winemaking tricks that take away detail and specificity. It is broadly flavorful with brambly blackberry and black cherry fruit, along with a streak of licorice.

This just-arrived new 2019 Vintages Essential edition has a fairly deep intense purple colour. Spicy, fresh, ripe, plummy-black-cherry purée nose with some sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, harmonious, well structured, spicy, gently juicy, bright, ripe, plummy-black-cherry purée flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, cedar-tinged finish. This ready-to-drink, crowd-pleaser has 13.5% alcohol and 5 g/L residual sugar.

A to Z draws from all corners of the state to produce this balanced blend that’s foursquare and delicious, generous but not overripe, black-cherry forward, held in check by modest oak notes. A midweek pinot.

Wine importer Nicholas Peace’s once upon a time Bordeaux address is juxtaposed against Columbia Valley merlot fruit for a heady and also verdant example of a Washington state red. A bit reductive still and also a toasted wood chariness obscures the fruit at present but as they say, “this too shall pass.” Quality and substantial parts dictate the direction and so in 12-18 months the florals will open, the fruit will flesh and the wine will begin a course of proper action. Liking the finesse and the possibility. Drink 2024-2027. Tasted March 2023.

The name is a nod to négociant and wine agent Nicholas Pearce's formative time spent in Bordeaux as 33 is the region's department number and Naujac, his street address. Pearce's collaborative merlot from Washington's Columbia Valley is impressively concentrated, full of ripe, fleshy fruit, wood spice and rich, voluminous tannins. The wine presents more new world than old world, is cleanly made and offers excellent length. Best now to 2026. Tasted April 2023.

An Hermitage-like nose of red and black currants, smoked meats, leather, and iron emerges from the 2019 Syrah In The Hills, a balanced, medium to full-bodied, concentrated Syrah that shows the pure, elegant, cooler style of the vintage nicely. It's already drinking well yet will cruise for 10-12 years in cool cellars. This is a beautiful, complex, incredibly impressive Washington State Syrah.
