We love a good story. The Hunting Lodge site is rich in history and the stories live on through generations. Home of New Zealand's original Sauvignon Blanc commercial vines and once a real hunting lodge for the Kerr-Taylor family, this site has seen it's fair share of change over the years.
It's most recent chapter revives The Hunting Lodge's culinary past. With the Restaurant sitting at the beating heart of the site, their working winery is home to everything good - Food, wine, friends and family. Cheers to that.

Leaning Post
A leaning post is what you find at the beginning of a row of grapes, anchoring the wires that are the frame-work for growing grapevines. It is the beginning of an obsession to translate a time and place into liquid. Leaning Post wines take you to that beginning by finding small, unique plots of land in Niagara and putting them in bottle. Because after stripping away all the fancy buildings and high-tech equipment you are left with a place on this earth that grows wine unlike any other. When you taste that in a glass you just know it. Nadia and Ilya have had to rely on the support of family, friends and financial institutions to make the dream of owning a winery a reality. Leaning Post began as a virtual winery and is so proud to now have the quaint tasting room at 1491 Hwy 8 on their home property in Winona, Ontario.
Ilya and Nadia are the brains and passion behind Leaning Post Wines. It started with a dream to take unique, interesting single vineyard blocks in Niagara and turn them into distinctive, terroir driven wines. Nadia and Ilya first met in their hometown of Winnipeg, MB where their passion for wine and each other was born.
Ilya has been a winemaker in the Niagara Region for the last 17 vintages working at Daniel Lenko Estate Winery, Foreign Affair and now at Leaning Post Wines. Ilya is also a consulting winemaker at the Good Earth Winery. Ilya’s true passion in life is to make world renowned wines from Niagara that really showcase the distinct terroir that Niagara offers.

Agrícolas de Vinos La Higuera
Agrícola de Vinos La Higuera is a small project founded in 2017 by two friends, Javier del Blanco and Jorge Navascues, to join their knowledge in the wine industry while working separately with top Estates from different regions all over Spain.
The aim is to nurture and craft honest wines that will honor their origins, with great value and genuine quality, expressing the purity of the grape variety and the environment they are grown in.

It is rare to see a 100% bobal, a variety localized in southeastern Spain. This provides impressive lift and complexity for the price with pomegranate-cherry fruit, and a scent of evergreen/fresh herbs and wood spice. It is medium weight with good structure - warm alcohol, brisk sour-edged acidity and slightly crusty tannin. But there is also generosity and balance with more energy and complexity than expected. Very good to excellent length. Tasted November 2025.

I really like the unaffected charm of this Bobal - there is a generosity and diversity of flavour here, and yet a lightness and ease of being. Flavours of red berries, cherries, and pomegranates mingle playfully with notes of savoury herbs, underbrush, and violets. The medium-bodied palate feels tender and tart, in the most pleasing way, and happily, the peppy energy, candour, and clarity of this wine continue on the long finish. Tasted November 2025.

Fantastic bouquet, complex and layered with scents of a softer barrel ferment approach, layers of lees with a core of ripe fruit suggesting green melon and cape gooseberry, each and sandy mineral ideas. Other fruits of grapefruit and apple emerge as the wine warms and opens out. On the palate a quietly energetic wine with complexities from citrus and lees, some barrel ferment then apple and melon. Some very tannins and white spice, sandy soils and lees complexities deliver a wine of charms and power. Best drinking from late 2025 through 2031+.
