About the Winery
Neil Ellis

Neil Ellis is regarded as one of the leading figures in the South African wine industry. Beginning in the early 1980s as a pioneering négociant, he sought out distinctive vineyard parcels to craft exceptional wines under his own label. Over time, this vision evolved into a respected family-run estate with both local and international acclaim for its elegance, balance, and quality.
Today, the story of Neil Ellis Wines extends beyond its founder. After four decades devoted to winemaking, the next chapter sees Neil’s son Warren sharing responsibilities as winemaker and viticulturist, continuing the commitment to excellence. His youngest son, Charl, leads the financial team, while his daughter, Margot, serves as brand manager, ensuring the family legacy carries forward with the same dedication and integrity.

The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch opens with fresh, red fruit notes and a dusty, round profile enhanced by succulent tannins and balanced acidity. Medium to full-bodied, this wine has robust pencil lead flavours and a food-friendly finish. This well-structured Cabernet Sauvignon captures the essence of its Stellenbosch roots, delivering both complexity and refined drinkability.

About the Winery
Sister's Run

Sister’s Run is serious fun. Their talented young winemaker Elena wears steel cap work boots every day of course, but carries a pair of high heels in back of the ute, only for emergencies, like last minute invitations to accept trophies at gala wine show dinners and the like.
Returning from a ‘knees-up’ at midnight, mid vintage, she managed to kick off one high heel and slip back into a boot’ just as the cellar crew cried out, ‘Run Sister Run’; and exactly then their winemaker and label took flight!
The stiletto and boot are Sister’s Run; an independently owned and operated winery with a fierce commitment to making the best wines they can from family vineyards. They don’t take ourselves as seriously as we take our wines, but agree with Elena, all you need to know about wine is the five ‘V’s and remember the best wine is the wine you like.

Inky hued, this is a densely packed Cab with concentrated black and red berry fruit, licorice, cedar and winter warming spice behind. It's as rich and mouth-filling on the palate as the color and aromas suggest, but with a lovely lift of tangy acidity to balance chiseled, powerful tannins.

This wine stays in its lane as a well priced, slightly sweet-edged ready-to-run cabernet. Expect quite lifted Aussie cab aromas of cranberry, chocolate mint and tobacco. It is medium-full bodied, smooth and generous with some warmth and a hint of sweetness. Tannins are quite fine for cabernet. The length is very good to excellent. Chill a bit. Last tasted June 2026
