Nestled at the foot of the hillside in Aloxe-Corton, Château Corton Frey stands as one of Burgundy’s most iconic landmarks. Built in the late 19th century atop 15th-century cellars, this historic estate is the region’s most photographed site after the Hospices de Beaune. Legend holds that Emperor Charlemagne once owned vineyards here in the 8th century, planting Chardonnay to preserve the whiteness of his beard.

The estate’s seven hectares span thirteen prestigious appellations, forming part of Burgundy’s intricate mosaic of climats, where the expression of terroir has been honed over centuries. Under the ownership of Caroline Frey, a highly regarded oenologist and winegrower, Château Corton Frey brings together Burgundian tradition with a sustainable, precision-driven philosophy. With intentionally limited production, each wine is crafted to reflect the purity and character of its origin.

This Corton Grand Cru Monopole captures the essence of Corton, produced within the historic walls of Château de Corton where Burgundy’s excellence reaches its finest expression. The nose reveals a refined mix of red fruit and subtle floral notes, while the palate offers a harmonious balance of richness and finesse. Elegant tannins, a touch of oak, and impressive length highlight its depth and hint at it's promising longevity.

Aging potential: 10 to 20 years.

18+/20 - Matthew Jukes

Rich, full-bodied, and beautifully crafted, this wine possesses considerable depth and a succulent mid-palate. Despite such a spectrum of flavors, there is no unwanted oak or tannin. Generous and structured, this is a heady wine with real flair and great ambition. It is the antithesis of old-fashioned Corton and marks

the beginning of an exciting new era for this perfectly situated monopole.
