Nestled at the foot of the hillside in Aloxe-Corton, Château Corton Frey stands as one of Burgundy’s most iconic landmarks. Built in the late 19th century atop 15th-century cellars, this historic estate is the region’s most photographed site after the Hospices de Beaune. Legend holds that Emperor Charlemagne once owned vineyards here in the 8th century, planting Chardonnay to preserve the whiteness of his beard.

The estate’s seven hectares span thirteen prestigious appellations, forming part of Burgundy’s intricate mosaic of climats, where the expression of terroir has been honed over centuries. Under the ownership of Caroline Frey, a highly regarded oenologist and winegrower, Château Corton Frey brings together Burgundian tradition with a sustainable, precision-driven philosophy. With intentionally limited production, each wine is crafted to reflect the purity and character of its origin.

Although better known for its red wines, this Grand Cru also produces white wines in small quantities. The name “Cort” derives from a Gallo-Roman term meaning “farm,” later evolving to signify a “royal domain,” and eventually a “rural domain” or village.

This 2022 Grand Cru reveals a luminous golden hue, with a depth characteristic of the Corton hill. The nose expresses a floral character, supported by subtle toasted notes of hazelnut and dried chamomile. On the palate, it offers a soft, medium-weight texture, carried by mineral-laden acidity that is both bracing and poised. Layers of fruit and acacia unfold gracefully, giving way to a refined mineral finesse on the extended finish, culminating in a sophisticated wine worthy of its name.
