Located in the heart of Chile, the Maule region is one of the country’s most diverse and historic wine areas, with vineyards dating back to the 18th century. Set at 35° south, it enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters that clearly define the growing season. The region’s soils, shaped by ancient coastal mountain geology, are predominantly granite-based with clay and iron influences, forming deep, well-structured profiles that support healthy vine development and expressive wines.

Sourced from a selection of cooler parcels in the Coastal Range of D.O. Maule, this wine delivers a vibrant expression with notable fruit intensity. Los Compadres (“co-fathers”) refers to the long-standing friendships and partnerships with growers of old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon in the area, who have entrusted Vinos Baettig with fruit from some of their finest dry-farmed vineyard sites.

Opening with alluring aromas of blackcurrant and raspberry, the wine gradually reveals notes of mint leaf and cigar box alongside the fruit. Full-bodied yet balanced, the palate shows excellent concentration, with ripe fruit, tea leaf, and black olive tapenade adding savoury complexity and tempering the firm tannins. Bright acidity brings freshness and carries the fruit and gentle spice through the finish.

About the Winery

Vinos Baettig

Francisco Baettig and Carlos de Carlos have been friends for more than 20 years and share a passion for high-quality wines that are genuine and connected to the land where they are made.

Their families arrived in Traiguén and Purén from Switzerland in the 19th century, where they worked in agriculture, surrounded by volcanoes, lakes and forests, silos, livestock, wagons, and wheat fields.
Francisco and Carlos' passion for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, together with their love for the land of their ancestors, was the inspiration for making their own wines that pay homage to these beloved terroirs. After studying the soil and climate in Traiguén for several years, they chose a plateau with volcanic soil between the Quino and Traiguén Rivers and planted vines in 2013.

"A promising project in a wine region that is the future of high-quality Chilean wines" - Patricio Tapia, Descorchados

The Wine Advocate

94 Points - Matthew Luczy

The 2023 Vino de Viñedo Los Compadres was sourced from numerous old-vine sites in the Coronel de Maule region, all of which were planted with País over a century ago and have been grafted with Cabernet Sauvignon in the past few decades. It provides a unique perspective on Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, characterized by a weightless density and umami-like texture that is entirely distinctive. The palate is fruit-driven yet impressively refined, featuring a seamless profile and a tense, grippy finish.
