The Hervé family traces its genealogy back to 1607 when Jean-Marie Hervé, a Breton sailor in the service of the King of France, came to the country at the end of his career and settled with his family in the  parish of Saillans. Today, the family estate is composed of just over 42 acres, which are located on both the hillsides of the wonderful terroir of Saillans and on the top of the highest plateaus of Fronsac. The first bottling at the Château dates back to 1890.

Chateau Hervé-Laroque  is the second wine of the estate. It is made from the same grapes and care as it's forerunner, Château Moulin Haut-Laroque,  but offers a different and more accessible expression of the terroir.  Aromas give way to notes of blackberry, red currants, purple lilac, spicy oak, and graphite. Medium-bodied on the palate with supple, seamless tannins and ample richness. There's plenty of fruit here to continue developing over time but this wine is also showing beautifully now.

A great match for protein - try with beef wellington, steak tartare, or lamb shanks.

Wine Spectator

91 Points - James Molesworth

Very fresh, with perfumed lilac and rose petal notes giving way to racy red currant and bitter cherry coulis flavors. A mouthwatering mineral edge cuts through on the finish. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2030. 2,500 cases made.

James Suckling

91 Points - James Suckling

Fresh notes of dark cherries, blueberries and violets on the nose. Herbs as well. Medium-bodied palate, marked by the wood, and a lightly tannic finish. Already approachable. Drink or hold.
