Cantina Bolzano St. Magdalena 2024
12 bottles per case
The St. Magdalena Classico DOC 2024 is produced by Kellerei Bozen-Cantina Bolzano in South Tyrol, Italy. This wine comes from St. Magdalena, a prestigious subzone known for combining the indigenous Lagrein and Vernatsch (Schiava) grape varieties. Crafted under the South Tyrol DOC classification, this wine reflects traditional winemaking methods with a focus on freshness and fruit purity. Enjoyable today, but can also age gracefully for up to 5 years.
This wine displays a brilliant ruby-red color and offers intense fruit aromas of red cherry and raspberry with floral aromas of violets and roses, followed by typical notes of bitter almond and marzipan. On the palate, it is smooth and fruity, showcasing juicy red fruit flavors complemented by a refreshing acidity that gives it great balance and drinkability.
Ideal with cold platters, meat and cheese dishes, and pizza.
About the Winery
Kellerei Bozen - Cantine Bolzano

Cantina Bolzano, based in the town of Bolzano, traces its roots to two of Alto Adige’s most historic cooperatives: Santa Magdalena, est. 1930 and Cantina Gries, est. 1908. After deciding to merge in 2001, Cantina Bolzano was created. Bolzano is located in the middle of a valley basin surrounded by hilly vineyards that grow from 200 meters above sea level up to 1000. North and south meet in this valley, and the sun warms the stony soils with its pronounced diurnal temperatures, protecting the vines from the cold.
The average growers’ plots in Sudtirol averages only approx. 1 hectare, and the area, with its famed reputation and steep slopes, is an expensive area to farm. The member of Bolzano (approx. 300 in all) own many of the best vineyards throughout the region, including the Valle Isarco, and pool their resources to create top quality wines. And while no grower is certified organic, many practice organic viticulture and all of them adhere to natural practices in their vineyards. Most growers have lived on their farms with their families for generations. They protect their land and cultivate their vineyards as they have done for generations with total respect of the environment where they live.

In 2010, brother & sister duo Joana and António founded Maçanita Vinhos following an invitation from a local Douro family who had been inspired by the ambition and creativity of the sibling winemakers. While both contribute to the winery, the challenging Douro Valley has been Joana’s personal passion from the start. She even relocated with her children to the Porto area to be closer to the vineyards, allowing her to focus her renowned energy on growing her Douro career and nurturing Maçanita’s rising profile.
The Douro—established in 1756 as the world’s first officially demarcated wine region—is defined by a remarkable diversity of terroirs and exposures. To reflect this complexity, a vineyard classification system introduced between 1935-1947 ranks sites from A to F, with “A” vineyards representing the highest potential. These top-tier sites, often located closer to the river, are prized for producing wines of depth, concentration, and structure.
Sourced from an “A”-classified Douro vineyard, this wine pours a deep ruby-violet hue and opens with concentrated aromas of dark fruits layered with subtle herbal and floral nuances. The palate is rich and expressive, balancing ripe fruit concentration with powerful yet polished tannins, and carries through to a long, persistent finish.

93 Points - Jacobo García Andrade, Senior Editor
Pure aromas of violets, blackberries and crushed stones. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, evenly distributed, with polished tannins and lively acidity. Very well balanced despite the high alcohol. Drink now.
