Creamy & Salty

Juan Jesús, who is a 4th generation winemaker, founded Viñátigo in 1990 and has worked tirelessly since then identifying, recuperating the native grapes of the Canary Islands.

Vijariego Blanco is a unique grape variety from the Canary Islands, whose main characteristics are its great adaptability to different environments and it's crazy acidity. At Viñátigo, Juan Jesus ferments and ages the juice in barrels, creating the perfect creaminess that balances the killer acidity.

On the nose, Vijariego Blanco has a high and well-balanced aromatic intensity. It has outstanding pear, vanilla and smoky undertones. Intense on the palate with a zippy freshness that is unique to this variety and a saltiness that comes from the volcanic soils.

Pair this wine with grilled fish or roasted chicken. It's creaminess and complexity will enhance the favours of the meal!

93 points (2018) - John Szabo, MS

From a leading producer in the Canary Islands based in Tenerife, specializing in the endemic, old varieties of the Islands, this is an outstanding example of Viajariego Blanco, grown high up on the slopes of active volcano El Teide. It offers a really lovely nose with a deft touch of wood, integrated into the fruity, almost tropical ensemble. The palate has excellent weight and depth, and creamy texture, rich and substantial. Cellar another 2-3 years for full integration; this rivals top notch southern Rhône white for sheer depth and power. Tasted October 2019.
