Tantalus was established in 2004 when Proprietor Eric Savics was presented with the opportunity to acquire one of the Okanagan Valley’s premier vineyard properties. Originally known as Pioneer Vineyards, the site was first planted to table grapes in 1927 by renowned, local horticulturist JW Hughes. Tantalus Vineyards was founded on the belief that exceptional wines made from a single vineyard of outstanding pedigree would capture the imagination and palates of those seeking authenticity and a sense of place. The winery is situated on the eastern slopes of the Okanagan Valley, overlooking the shores of Lake Okanagan and the City of Kelowna. Today the winery is known as the oldest continuously producing vineyard in British Columbia.

With a nod to Eric’s eldest son Eric Jr., affectionately known to many over the years as “Bear”, this wine was crafted from the youngest blocks and made in a crisp and lively style.

Exhibiting classic aromas of sea breeze, oyster shell and lemon custard, alongside pear and apple crumble, while green floral notes bring intrigue to the nose. The palate is brimming with fresh acidity: big notes of honeydew melon, ambrosia apple and sweet basil are juxtaposed by a playful yuzu-like freshness and hint of orange creamsicle. A lively and fresh texture enhances the lovely, rounded weight.

Sip alongside a tasty smoked salmon sandwich with goat cheese.

92 Points - Michael Godel

Cracker chardonnay here from Dave Paterson and Tantalus, über fresh, crisp and in the cleanest varietal style. Easy and low alcohol (12.8 percent) but don’t be fooled because this packs a punch so in effect taking this lightly would be akin to poking the bear. The magic of conversion rate is the catalyst to effecting balance but be wise, grill a fleshy and fatty piece of fish (salmon, char, etc.) to tame the seasoning and reach chardonnay pairing nirvana. Drink 2023-2026.
