At the Southerly point of Africa, along the Cape South Coast is the coolest wine region - Elgin. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean at an altitude of 450m along the Southern ridge lies the unique Iona vineyards surrounded by the Unesco certified Kogelberg Biosphere. Iona's approach is hands off and the land is farmed according to organic and biodynamic practices with a particular focus on ensuring the health of the soils whilst pests are kept under control by the resident flock of geese that roam the vineyards.

The Sophie range uses fruit from Iona's vineyards as well as bought in grapes from dedicated growers in the Cape South Coast region. The te’Blanche Sauv Blanc is fresh, crisp, balanced, accessible, and delicious! Vibrant pure fruit aromas of cut green apples, zesty limes, gooseberries and tropical notes with white flowers and subtle mineral undertones.

Pair with lightly grilled white fish with lemon and olive oil drizzle.

About the Winery

Iona Vineyards

"THE WINEMAKER IS THE CUSTODIAN OF THE FRUIT"

Iona is planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. We have invested in state-of-the-art equipment such as the latest Willmes Press, Bucher Delta Oscillys de-stemmer. A deep trust in the way we farm, lends us to adopt natural winemaking practices in the cellar with minimum use of sulphur, commercial yeasts, enzymes, and filtration. We aim to make wines that portray the uniqueness of each vintage celebrating a true sense of place without overplaying the winemaking hand.

People are an integral part of our success. We have 20 families living on the farm with up to 35 years of service. All vineyard practices are done by hand. Workers are shareholders and receive pension funds, education and social support.

This is a fine, fleshy if lower key sauvignon with aromas of gooseberry, greengage plum, grapefruit and some fresh herbs. It is quite firm, lively and dry with a sense of minerality. The length is very good to excellent. Just fine at the price and holding to South Africa's value band/ Tasted January 2023
