Though Chateau Maurac had winemaking roots in the Medoc before it was taken over by Claude Gaudin in 1998, it's from this time that the winery began the long but important process of restructuring its vineyards. These efforts were made to unite both grapes and terroir and today the property benefits from this work, extending over approximately 15 hectares in the Haut-Médoc as well as a few plots in Saint-Estèphe. The wines are brought up using a minimally interventionist approach, bottled without fining and light filtration.

Usually used as a complement to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot is truly the star at Chateau Maurac. Based on a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cab, the main wine of the estate offers depth, freshness and soft tannins.

A great match with the proteins & fats in grilled or roasted meats, along with dishes cooked in rich, savoury sauces.

92 Points - Michael Godel

Quite remarkable longevity here from this 2008 Cru Bourgeois from Haut Médoc with more than ample fruit lingering on what is a pretty sturdy frame. Acids continue to feast while structurally speaking this has quite obviously done its yeoman work and yet by amazing luck and/or grace there is plenty of fuel and by extension pleasure left in the tank. Really long finish and one just as sweet and generous as how the wine began in the first place. Drink 2023-2026.
