Domaine Tour Saint Michel, a family property, was created in 1930. Michel Fabre, founder of the Domaine, acquired the first vines and his Henri took eventually up the torch. Aided by his wife Eliane, he developed and grew the domain and today, there are 44 hectares,  including 30 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Since 2007, Mireille has managed the vineyard in accordance with family tradition, bringing a more modern style along with her daughter, Magali.

The nose of the Cuvée du Lion reveals cooked fruits wrapped in sweet spices and garrigue. This is a characteristic and structured Châteauneuf, with expressive flavours of red berry fruits continued on the palate with liquorice and hints of rose petal and light pepper spice . The full-body and bold fruit are balanced by velvety, supportive tannins and bright acidity, adding lift and length into the finish.

Drink as the weather gets chillier and enjoy with venison steaks or brie with truffles.

Wine Enthusiast

94 Points - Anna Lee C. Iljima

Summer raspberries and lilac petals perfume this fresh-fruited, juicy blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. It's plump on the palate but lifted by streaks of salty, dusty mineral notes and a cheery red-berry acidity. Soft, furry tannins are mouthfilling but well integrated. Irresistible young, the wine should maintain peak through 2030 at least.

Smoking good notes of red currants, black cherries, garrigue, pepper, and hints of leather all emerge from the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Du Lion, a Grenache dominated cuvée that includes 20% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre. Brought up mostly in concrete (there was 20% in old barrels), this classic, silky, elegant 2019 has good (maybe not great) concentration, terrific tannins, and a great finish. It’s going to sing with 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for over a decade. 10/6/2020
