Founded in 1974 by Valentino Migliorini, a Michelin-starred restaurateur with a visionary approach to winemaking, Rocche dei Manzoni quickly became a pioneer in the Langhe. Valentino introduced groundbreaking innovations such as the first Nebbiolo-Barbera blend (Bricco Manzoni), the use of small oak barrels, and traditional method sparkling wines—well ahead of his time. Today, under the direction of his son Rodolfo, the estate continues its legacy of experimentation and precision, producing acclaimed Barolo, innovative blends, and sparkling wines that showcase both tradition and forward-thinking spirit.
The picturesque vineyard extending around the winery's main facilities in the Manzoni Soprani area, benefits from an advantageous south, southeast & southwest exposure. The fully south-facing parcel, known as “Vigna d’la Roul” (oak grove vineyard), stands as one of the estate’s flagship Barolo sites. Planted on clay-limestone soils, it yields wines of notable structure and exceptional longevity, with the capacity to reveal remarkable complexity after extended ageing.
Barolo Vigna d'la Roul 2012 beautifully captures the authentic character of both Nebbiolo and its terroir. Aromatically expressive, it opens with elegant layers of spice, earth, and dried herbs, complemented by subtle mineral and graphite nuances. The palate is powerful yet harmonious, offering impressive concentration and vigour balanced by silky, well-integrated tannins. There's structure without overwhelming the the generous fruit and approachable nature of the wine, and its savoury, lively finish lingers with remarkable persistence.
More expressive than imposing, this vintage combines balance, generosity, and an irresistible sense of completeness.
