Founded in 1974 by Valentino Migliorini, a Michelin-starred restaurateur with a visionary approach to winemaking, Rocche dei Manzoni quickly became a pioneer in the Langhe. Valentino introduced groundbreaking innovations such as the first Nebbiolo-Barbera blend (Bricco Manzoni), the use of small oak barrels, and traditional method sparkling wines—well ahead of his time. Today, under the direction of his son Rodolfo, the estate continues its legacy of experimentation and precision, producing acclaimed Barolo, innovative blends, and sparkling wines that showcase both tradition and forward-thinking spirit.
The picturesque vineyard extending around the winery's main facilities in the Manzoni Soprani area, benefits from an advantageous south, southeast & southwest exposure. The fully south-facing parcel, known as “Vigna d’la Roul” (oak grove vineyard), stands as one of the estate’s flagship Barolo sites. Planted on clay-limestone soils, it yields wines of notable structure and exceptional longevity, with the capacity to reveal remarkable complexity after extended ageing.
The 2008 Barolo Vigna d’la Roul is deep garnet in colour with a faint orange rim, immediately revealing an intense and opulent profile. The aromatics unfold into rich dried fruit and spiced orange peel, subtly lifted by hints of cured meat. On the palate, it shows notable density and elegant weight, supported by sweet, chewy tannins. Mineral, sandy undertones and balsamic nuances add complexity to a core of crushed plum and dark fruit. Full-bodied and flavourful, it finishes with impressive persistence, a wine clearly built to age.
