Founded in 1974 by Valentino Migliorini, a Michelin-starred restaurateur with a visionary approach to winemaking, Rocche dei Manzoni quickly became a pioneer in the Langhe. Valentino introduced groundbreaking innovations such as the first Nebbiolo-Barbera blend (Bricco Manzoni), the use of small oak barrels, and traditional method sparkling wines—well ahead of his time. Today, under the direction of his son Rodolfo, the estate continues its legacy of experimentation and precision, producing acclaimed Barolo, innovative blends, and sparkling wines that showcase both tradition and forward-thinking spirit.

Planted in clay-rich, grey-blue marl soils, this south/southeast-facing vineyard produces a Barolo with remarkable structure, depth, and colour intensity, earning its classification as a “10-year” reserve. The vineyard reflects both the exceptional quality of its terroir and its rich history—once owned by the Curia, it's still marked by a charming 16th-century church perched atop the ridge, adding to the beauty and character of the surrounding landscape.

The 2012 vintage began with a warm growing season before cooler conditions in the fall helped restore balance and preserve freshness in the grapes. True to its Monforte origins, this Barolo opens with a powerful and deeply expressive character, reflecting the rugged, structured nature of the vineyard. The nose reveals an abundance of dark fruit, spice, and infused herbs, while the palate is vibrant and harmonious, with rounded, polished tannins and a fresh, juicy finish. A beautifully balanced wine where power, elegance, and complexity come together seamlessly.

96 points - Antonio Galloni

The 2012 Barolo Vigna Madonna Assunta La Villa is one of the best wines I have tasted from Rocche dei Manzoni in some time. Vivid sweet red cherry fruit, blood orange, mint and rose petal lend captivating beauty. Large-scaled and ample on the palate, with explosive depth, the 2012 is wonderfully alluring. Blood orange, cinnamon and dried rose petal reappear on the exotic finish. This is a truly great vintage for the Madonna Assunta La Villa.
