Founded in 1974 by Valentino Migliorini, a Michelin-starred restaurateur with a visionary approach to winemaking, Rocche dei Manzoni quickly became a pioneer in the Langhe. Valentino introduced groundbreaking innovations such as the first Nebbiolo-Barbera blend (Bricco Manzoni), the use of small oak barrels, and traditional method sparkling wines—well ahead of his time. Today, under the direction of his son Rodolfo, the estate continues its legacy of experimentation and precision, producing acclaimed Barolo, innovative blends, and sparkling wines that showcase both tradition and forward-thinking spirit.

Located in the Perno hamlet of Monforte d’Alba, the six-hectare “Chapel of St. Stephen” vineyard benefits from ideal southern exposures and complex soils of compact grey marl, sandstone, and reddish-yellow sands. This site produces wines of remarkable aromatic intensity and concentration.

The 2012 vintage presents an enveloping expression, defined by an excellent balance between structure and finesse. True to a classic Barolo profile, it remains youthful despite its age and promises further development over many years.

On the nose, it opens with layered aromas of blackberry, plum, and cherry, interwoven with notes of tobacco, leather, vanilla, violets, and rose petals. The palate is full-bodied and structured, supported by firm tannins and moderate acidity, echoing the dark fruit core alongside accents of spice, tobacco, and leather. The finish is long and persistent, underscoring both its depth and ageing potential.

Wow. This shows superb concentration and richness with masses of beautiful ripe cherry and strawberry fruit as well as hints of cedar. It's full-bodied, chewy and very rich. The soft and velvety tannins give the wine form. Beautiful to taste now but better in 2021.
