Founded in 1974 by Valentino Migliorini, a Michelin-starred restaurateur with a visionary approach to winemaking, Rocche dei Manzoni quickly became a pioneer in the Langhe. Valentino introduced groundbreaking innovations such as the first Nebbiolo-Barbera blend (Bricco Manzoni), the use of small oak barrels, and traditional method sparkling wines—well ahead of his time. Today, under the direction of his son Rodolfo, the estate continues its legacy of experimentation and precision, producing acclaimed Barolo, innovative blends, and sparkling wines that showcase both tradition and forward-thinking spirit.

The Pianpolvere Soprano Bussia project began in 1998 with the purchase of this historic Monforte d’Alba vineyard. Under Rodolfo's careful stewardship and commitment to the sustainable Green Experience program, the estate crafts two Barolos of authentic character from this single site.

Produced from the renowned Bussia cru, this exceptional 2010 Barolo showcases the vintage at its finest, capturing the purity, floral elegance, and remarkable structure that define great Nebbiolo. The nose is deep and layered, opening with autumnal notes of dried leaves and damp earth before revealing blackcurrant, blueberry, tobacco leaf, black tea, cracked black pepper, and subtle mineral nuances. Powerful yet impeccably balanced, the palate is full-bodied and commanding, with concentrated dark fruit, vibrant freshness, savoury complexity, and finely sculpted tannins that lend both precision and finesse. The finish is remarkably long and persistent, echoing with spice, mineral notes, and lingering layers of fruit.

The 2010 Barolo Riserva Bussia from Pianpolvere Soprano is a flat-out stunner. It is also the first Barolo I have tasted under Rocche dei Manzoni's stewardship of this historic Monforte estate that takes me back to the wines of Ferruccio Fenocchio prior to his passing. Rose petal, mint, kirsch, spice and blood orange are some of the many notes that shape this exquisite, classically translucent Barolo. Medium in body and supremely refined, the 2010 is utterly beguiling. I can't wait to taste it with bottle age.
