Husband and wife winemaker team, Chris and Andrea Mullineux, set out with a shared vision to create authentic Swartland wines that reflect the distinct terroir of the region while embracing reasoned, sustainable farming practices and modern minimalist winemaking. Their commitment to quality and their deep respect for the environment and their employees have earned them acclaim both nationally and internationally, and has led to Mullineux being awarded South African Winery of the Year an unprecedented five times by the highly respected Platter’s Guide.
The Mullineux Syrah has become synonymous with its hallmark Swartland perfume of plush blackberries, violets and black olive tapenade. The palate is rich and elegant with fine tannins, complex red fruits and warm spicy notes on the finish. This Syrah is accessible now but will benefit greatly from ageing.
From six vineyards, three on schist, two on granite and one on iron. Aromatics of cranberry, raspberry, orange, olive, fynbos and white pepper. Pure fruit, not without heft, snappy acidity and powdery tannins. Well balanced, seamless, polished in the best sense.
