Husband and wife winemaker team, Chris and Andrea Mullineux, set out with a shared vision to create authentic Swartland wines that reflect the distinct terroir of the region while embracing reasoned, sustainable farming practices and modern minimalist winemaking. Their commitment to quality and their deep respect for the environment and their employees have earned them acclaim both nationally and internationally, and has led to Mullineux being awarded South African Winery of the Year an unprecedented five times by the highly respected Platter’s Guide.

The vineyards selected for this balanced yet intensely sweet and remarkable Straw Wine naturally possess high acidity, concentrated flavour, and excellent structure. These qualities are rooted in the calibre of old-vine Chenin Blanc planted on the decomposed granite soils of the Paardeberg.

This unique, solera-aged straw wine combines vintages from 2008 through 2023, resulting in exceptional complexity and remarkable freshness. The No. 4 rendition captivates with aromas of sun-dried apricots and fragrant fynbos. Intensely concentrated yet lifted by vibrant acidity, it offers a harmonious balance amongst layers of citrus, candied ginger, and marzipan. An exquisite and rare cuvée with an enduring finish.

Enjoy this coveted wine on it's own or with hard cheeses and charcuterie.

About the Winery

Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines

Mullineux Family Wines, established in 2007 in the Swartland region of South Africa, is owned and managed by Chris and Andrea Mullineux. Since its inception the winery has established itself as one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine brands, both locally and internationally. Originally from Northern California, Winemaker Andrea Mullineux studied Viticulture and Oenology at UC-Davis before working in Stellenbosch and meeting Chris at a wine festival in Champagne. Chris is the Viticulturist in charge of the vineyards on their farm on Kasteelberg Mountain as well as fruit sourcing for their value Kloof Street wines.

The vineyards at Roundstone are farmed organically and are in the process of becoming Regenerative Organic certified. This involves practices like crop rotation, no-till farming, and eliminating chemical pesticides and fertilizers. These methods help rehabilitate soil, promote animal welfare, and improve farmers' livelihoods while sequestering carbon and producing healthier yields. In the winery, no additives are used aside from minimal sulfur dioxide, and all operations are IPW certified, following environmental best practices. Waste, including grape skins and lees, is recycled or repurposed, and cellar effluent is processed through an eco-friendly wetland system.

98 Points - Neal Martin

The NV Olerasay 4º is the solera that now contains vintages between 2008 and 2023 of their {Mullineux} straw wine. It presents a slightly burnished amber hue. The bouquet is very concentrated displaying scents of lanolin, marmalade, candle wax and just a slight nuttiness. The palate is beautifully balanced with a viscous texture (obviously) and flavours of tangy marmalade intermixed with apricot, mango, a touch of ginger and quince. Very long yet fresh on the finish, this is utterly enchanting.
