Husband and wife winemaker team, Chris and Andrea Mullineux, set out with a shared vision to create authentic Swartland wines that reflect the distinct terroir of the region while embracing reasoned, sustainable farming practices and modern minimalist winemaking. The Granite Syrah hails from a Jakkalsfontein vineyard planted in the decomposed Granitic soils of the Paardeberg. This wine is synonymous with gorgeous perfumed aromatics, freshness and length. Naturally balanced fruit purity on the nose showing hints of white Lily and light spice. Red berry compote on the palate later reveals stony minerality on the finish. This wine will age at least 25 years and decanting is recommended when opened in its youth.
Made from 100% whole-cluster grapes, the 2021 Granite Syrah is dense with a firm, rocky core and fresh layers of spicy red and black fruit tones that erupt from the glass. With immense mineral tension and fine-grained tannins, this will need some time to come around but will indeed finish strong. Your patience will be rewarded; give the wine time.
