Nestled beneath the imposing Helderberg Mountain, Metzer Wines comes from South Africa’s lower Helderberg region, just five kilometres from the shores of False Bay. Founded in 2006 by Wade Metzer—one of the country’s most exciting young talents—after mentoring with the influential Eben Sadie, the estate focuses on mature vineyards and heritage grapes, particularly Chenin Blanc and Cinsault. With minimal intervention, light handling, indigenous yeast fermentation, and subtle oak ageing, Wade crafts wines that are expressive and authentic, capturing both the personality of the fruit and the essence of the Helderberg.

Benefitting from the cooling maritime breezes from the shores of False Bay, this wine showcases pure fruit expression with aromas of pear, white peach, and lemon. The palate is bright and layered, revealing stone fruit framed by rich texture and gentle, well-integrated acidity. A persistent finish offers delicate hints of white spice and orange blossom. Ready to enjoy now, the wine will also develop additional complexity with further cellaring.

Goes great with vegetable dishes or salads as well as fish or chicken entrées baked in a rich sauce.

96 Points - Christian Edes

From a Heldeberg vineyard planted in 1980 and 4km from False Bay. Matured for 10 months in older oak. Citrus, peach, hay, herbs and a touch of reduction on the nose. The palate is intense but not obvious – excellent fruit density and vibrant acidity before a savoury, slightly bitter finish. A engrossing wine of great vinosity.
