Garage Wine Co was quite literally started in a garage in 2001, by Etobicoke expat Derek Mossman and his wife Pilar Miranda. Since then, the dynamic duo have chosen to revive old vineyards in marginalized Chilean communities. They work mostly in the regions of Maule and Itata where they make highly coveted wines.

Farming in Chile’s Secano Interior, where GWCo. operates, exists far from the mainstream focus on branded varietals. For decades, old vineyards here were neglected and relegated to bulk wine production. Over the past ten years, GWCo. has revitalized these vines, blending the traditional fieldcraft of small-scale farmers with modern science and thoughtful winemaking. The impact has been profound, enhancing vineyard health and fruit quality while benefiting local farmers.

Crafted as an approachable, easy-drinking addition to the GWCo. portfolio, this wine is sourced from carefully revived old vines in the Maule Valley. The nose reveals aromatic hints of fresh herbs that complement bursts of ripe berry fruit. On the palate, the wine’s chalky structure and bright, precise acidity provide a backbone for pure, lasting fruit flavours. Drink now or cellar for a year or two to soften the edges - this is a standout addition to the fold, offering both authenticity and character at an exceptional value.

Try with charcoal-grilled burgers dressed with chimichurri or grilled black-bean burgers served with aged, melted cheddar.

92 Points - John Szabo, MS

Here's a deeply-coloured, immediately impressive, dry-farmed, old vine cabernet from the Maule Valley, replete with ripe, dark fruit, wild herbal-spice and genuine grit and old vine density, effortless balance and complexity. There's a ton of character on offer for the price, and drinkability is high, the sort of wine you can enjoy now with salty protein to soften, or cellar for another decade without concern for a fully savoury expression. A terrific value, honest and authentic wine in the final analysis - I've seen less wine at three times the price.
