Nestled at the foot of the Corton hillside in Aloxe-Corton, Château Corton Caroline is one of Burgundy’s most iconic landmarks. Built in the late 19th century atop 15th-century cellars, this listed monument is the region’s most photographed site after the Hospices de Beaune. Legend has it that Emperor Charlemagne once owned vineyards here in the 8th century and planted Chardonnay to keep his white beard unstained.

The estate’s seven hectares span thirteen prestigious appellations—including Corton, Corton-Charlemagne, Meursault, Volnay, and Pommard—each part of Burgundy’s mosaic of climats, where the expression of terroir has been refined for centuries.

Under the ownership of Caroline Frey, renowned oenologist and winegrower, Château Corton Caroline unites Burgundian tradition with a sustainable, precision-driven approach. With intentionally limited production, each wine is crafted to capture the purity and character of its origin.

The Pauland climat, whose name originates from the old French Pol meaning “mare” or “mud,” reflects the area’s ancient marshland past. This wine offers an expressive bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry, and cherry, leading to a generous, fruit-driven palate with supple texture and a long, soft finish.

90-92 Points - Neal Martin

The 2019 Aloxe-Corton Les Paulands 1er Cru has an easygoing bouquet with red cherries, redcurrant and subtle rose petal scents. Good definition and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with good tension and perhaps a touch more precision than Les Petites Lolières. Where it does fall o little short is on the curtness of the finish – you wish for more sustain in the mouth. Otherwise, this is a decent, quite saline Aloxe-Corton that should age nicely in bottle.Rich, full-bodied, and beautifully crafted, this wine possesses considerable depth and a succulent mid-palate. Despite such a spectrum of flavors, there is no unwanted oak or tannin. Generous and structured, this is a heady wine with real flair and great ambition. It is the antithesis of old-fashioned Corton and marks

the beginning of an exciting new era for this perfectly situated monopole.
