Leaning Post's house style of rosé is bright and refreshing with the most beautiful colour and great fruit. The nose is so vibrant with red fruits such as raspberry, strawberry and watermelon, with savoury notes of white pepper, lemon basil and hints of orange blossom. The palate reflects the nose with rich texture and a delicate finish. This bright, refreshing Rosé was built for warm summer days and good company!

Mineral & Zesty

The 2023 vintage was beautiful, and moderate, with a slight coolness in late August and early
September that really slowed ripening. Yields were average, and as a result, wines are very
concentrated, powerful with full flavour development and great acidity. The nose of this wine
is full of pineapple, lime zest, lemon-curd, and peach blossom followed by meringue and crème fraiche. The palate has a refreshing reflection of the nose, adding peach, pear, honeysuckle and spice, but it also showcases a mineral and wet stone characteristic that leads to the long,
elegant finish. 

This wine will age well for the next 5-8 years. Enjoy with brie, sole meuniere, and lemon-roasted chicken.

Earthy & Floral

A blend of fruit from 4 different Vineyards from 3 different sub-appellations, this wine explodes out of the glass with wonderful strawberry, raspberry, mulberry, and bing cherry followed closely by sugar beet, tobacco leaf, moss and fresh soil. The balance, coolness and bright acidity of the 2023 vintage is immediately evident, yet with extra air it starts to show more fullness and roundness than might be expected. The incredibly supple mouthfeel, medium body and balanced acidity frame exceptional flavour intensity, leading to a long, sweeping finish that ends on a decidedly mineral and crunchy note.  This wine is great now with a generous decant but will also age well for 3-4 years.

Pair this Pinot Noir with smoky glazed ham or grilled salmon. 

Citrusy & Floral

The intense aromatics of this wine leap from the glass, lifted by beautiful, creamy bubbles. Explosive aromas of fresh mandarin orange, Meyer lemon, fresh ginger, and notions of nutmeg and honeysuckle immediately engage the olfactory senses. The palate echoes the nose, but also brings in mango, lychee and rose-petal with the light citrus and floral components wiping through the background. A rich mouthfeel is brought on with this warmer vintage as well as the lees in bottle. Serve well chilled. Pour immediately.

Tropical & Fresh

Leaning Post's goal for their Sauvignon Blanc is to reflect the unique Niagara terroir and this wine always delivers. 

Very intense tropical aromas of pineapple, passionfruit and mango lead to kiwi, lemongrass and lime-leaf on the nose. The palate has bright acidity matched by a creamy texture, with key-lime and starfruit battling with passionfruit for supremacy, while lemongrass and honeysuckle stand back and watch. The finish is the most surprising, with the flintiest, most “wet stones in a mountain stream” minerality we have ever seen on our Sauvignon Blanc!

Drink now or over the next 3 years. Enjoy with pan-fried halibut, fresh pesto; anchovy-paste pasta, or lemon herb roasted chicken. 

Toasty & Citrusy

The Chardonnay in this wine comes from a beautiful old vines (35+ years old) block, while the Pinot Noir is from a younger block on the same property in Beamsville Bench.

If you can imagine dipping a freshly baked lemon/herb croissant into a cloud then you have some idea of how this wine tastes! The toasty/biscuity and lemon-curd aspect leaps immediately out of the glass, with a background of crème-fraiche and flowers. The palate is full and round, with a very fine mousse showing fresh-baked bread, lemon meringue, roasted almond and unicorn-dust. The terroir and old-vines really come through on the finish with an amazing mineral/flinty core and very present acidity.

Enjoy now, but this wine will age gracefully over the next 8+ years if you want it to. Drink with fresh Malpeque oysters, hazelnut crusted halibut, and soft white cheeses.

Spicy & Tropical

Husband and wife duo Ilya and Nadia started Leaning Post winery in Niagara over 10 years ago. Initially a virtual set up, the winery now located on Highway 8, has become a reference producer in Niagara.

Harvested on September 25, 2021, the grapes were destemmed, into concrete tanks where it went through a spontaneous fermentation. It remained in concrete and aged on skins for 25 days, then it was gently pressed into clay amphora (17%) and stainless steel (83%). This wine was racked only a handful of times prior to being bottled unfiltered on April 13, 2022.

This wine represents the evolving nature of wine in Niagara. Orange marmalade, jalapeño pepper jelly, and passionfruit dominate the nose and palate, while elderflower honey, cream and lemon dominate the palate with a rich and oily texture. It is all tied together with bracing acidity, gorgeous texture and a seam of fine tannin. Chill and drink as it warms to reveal new facets of its unique personality.

Enjoy with fish tacos or fish and chips.

Spiced & Round

This blended wine (61% Merlot, 39& Cabernet Franc) always over-delivers massively for the price. Blackberry, cassis, raspberry and mulberry instantly appear on the nose, with lilac, cracked white pepper, licorice and pancetta following closely behind. On the palate, it has a very broad and weighty mid-palate featuring plum, wild-blueberry, and strawberry layered over dark- chocolate and graphite with wisps of herbs-de-provence and black olive fading in and out.

The powerful but soft tannins make it satisfying to drink now with a good decant, but it will certainly age well over the next 5-8 years. Great with burgers, cured meat, and hard cheese.

Creamy & Zesty

The vintage allowed Chardonnay to ripen very slowly and evenly, gaining full flavour while keeping the balance of fresh crisp acidity. Immediately on the nose there is a wave of pineapple, lemon-curd, lime- leaf, and apricot pith, followed immediately by sea salt and wet-stone minerality. The palate brings beautiful richness but still balance with white peach, spice, and lemon-meringue mingling with crème fraiche, flint and roasted almond. The finish is silky smooth and exceptionally long but is eventually overtaken by wet-stone and crisp acidity. A truly beautiful example of Niagara Chardonnay!

Pair this wine with meaty fish like halibut or cod. Shellfish including lobster, shrimp, crab and scallops work stunningly with this Chardonnay.

A blend of fruit from 4 different vineyards from the best appellations across Niagara, the 2023 Pinot Noir is the epitome of the Leaning Post style. 2023 was a cool and elongated growing season, and yields were average, making wines of exceptional concentration and acidity. This wine combines classic “P(inot)- funk” flavours of cherry, mulberry, and raspberry with candy-cane beets, earth, leaves and stone. Made in a style that is slightly more approachable than our single-vineyard Pinots, it still shows incredible depth and complexity. The palate in particular shows good fullness and silkiness in the mouth with kirsch married to sugar beet wrapped in fresh basil smashed over limestones! Traces of spice lift the back end of the wonderfully long finish.  The 2023 needs a lot of air, so give it a good decant before
enjoying. This wine will age gracefully for 5-7 years.

Spiced & Round

This is our first (and possibly only!?) vintage of Petit Verdot, with the majority of the fruit coming from Grimsby Hillside Vineyard. What an amazing cacophony of fruit and floral on the nose! Mulberry, plum and blackberry hit your senses immediately, followed quickly by lilac, lavender, violet and sage. The palate brings in blueberry and raspberry, with anise seed, sweet basil, cured meat, cocoa, cumin a mossy/brambly character the underpins the whole wine. It is medium bodied, with present acidity and tannins that are full but soft. This wine is perfectly balanced for warmer days and lighter fair in the summer, and yet full enough to match richer foods and cooler evenings. To drink now, either decant or enjoy slowly and allow the wine to unfold for you.

Cuvée Heritage is the third vintage of our flagship red blend, but the first called Heritage – in homage to Ilya & Nadia’s Ukrainian heritage, and with an intention of building a heritage of tremendous red blends at Leaning Post. 

Creamy & Zesty

A warm spring and warm summer lead to an uneven and wet fall, however good viticulture and good terroir still allowed these grapes to develop complex aromatics and structure without losing acidity or freshness. The blocks of two different Chardonnay clones: clone 76 and clone 96, were hand picked on October 17th. The clones were kept separate throughout pressing and oak aging. The fruit was whole cluster pressed and allowed to settle for a couple of days before being put into barrel for spontaneous fermentation. Once fermentations were completed, the wine remained in French oak barriques on lees for 15 months. This wine was skillfully blended with the perfect percentage of each clone to truly showcase this vintage, (63% clone 76 and 37% clone 96). We bottled this wine in June of 2023. 

Spicy & Earthy

The depth of this wine was structured by the warm, but not hot summer and autumn. Leaning Post believes this is the best Gamay they have made to date! The terrior of Wismer-Armbrust Vineyard really shines through, with loads of garrigue, spice and leather, with intense blackberry, cherry and pepper on the nose. The mouth is complimentary showing mulberry, pomegranate, lilac, smoked sausage and fennel seed. The finish is fantastically long and smooth. 

Try with brie, camembert, your favourite burger, or anything on your plate during a cozy night.

This Merlot is part of Leaning Post's 'Freaks & Geek' collection, their Natural Wines series. The Merlot Vin Nature 2019 is a truly deep and fascinating wine, it reminds us of walking through the pine and mossy dampness of a forest path by a lake in the Canadian Shield on a cool autumn evening, stopping to pick some wild-blueberries and noticing in the background a roaring fire.

Pair this natural Merlot with roasted white meat or sautéed vegetables.   

Zesty & Mineral

The 2022 Riesling shows why we get so excited about Riesling from Lincoln Lakeshore! The nose explodes with beautiful lime-leaf, green apple, peach, cumin, and honeysuckle aromas. Those flavours continue on the palate while adding honeycomb, cinnamon, white lilac and the distinctive stony minerality of the Lincoln Lakeshore. This is a classically mid-weight Riesling but has lovely full texture, coming both from the vineyard and the lees aging. As the wine sweeps across the palate towards the finish, a bright green leafiness and flinty/minerally sensation appear in waves, leading to an amazing, crunchy finish. The wine will age well for the next decade.

The best pairings for this Riesling include poached salmon, roasted chicken, ham, and veal or pork scallopini.

Creamy & Mineral

The “Geekiness” continues to rise in this wine. An experiment in lees aging, this Riesling ages 22 months on all the lees collected from all the white wine fermentations since vintage 2014.   Reductive notes of flint and mineral frame all the beautiful stone fruit and classic Riesling notes.   It has a wonderfully rich and creamy texture balanced by a distinct freshness. It is practically immortal and should age beautifully for the next decade and well beyond.

Drink with freshly shucked oysters, sushi, and the geek you love the most.

Full and round with a core of acidity, this Chardonnay shows what can be done with this variety in Niagara. The nose highlights lemon curd and mandarin orange that is rounded by hazelnut and soft baking spices. The palate follows the direction of the nose with the lemon curd morphing into lemon meringue pie, and a strong wet stone/mineral base. This wine will age well over the next 8+ years. Drink with roasted turkey, hazelnut crusted halibut, and soft white cheeses. Cheers!

Powerful & Juicy

The 2020 vintage of our Merlot captures the essence of a warm year in the cool-climate terroir of the Niagara Lakeshore. This sub-appellation’s proximity to Lake Ontario tempers the summer heat, preserving fresh acidity and allowing the fruit to ripen slowly and evenly.

For pairing this Merlot, think: roast turkey, beef short rib, or a rustic ratatouille! For braised meat pairings, try complementing Merlot’s boisterous fruit notes with chimichurri sauce.
