--

The vineyards of Fattoria di Sammontana are located along the hills that border the Arno River, 20km to the south west of Florence. Today, the family - now in its fourth generation - runs the farm according to organic and biodynamic practices, with the intent to fully preserve and sustain the traditions and winemaking history of the land.

This mixed case includes 3 bottles of each wine.

3 bottles x Fattoria di Sammontana Primo Fuoco Rosso 2021

In the language of potters, “Primo Fuoco” is the initial clay firing that leads to the creation of terracotta (with a second and a third firing you get different types of ceramic and majolica). This wine is fermented naturally and matured in a large terracotta amphora, hand made from local red clay (“terra rossa”).

On the nose, Primo Fuoco Rosso is floral and fruity. The notes of cherry dominate with a mineral touch that is almost flinty. The palette is long and lucious.

Pairing suggestion: Perfect with white and red meats, as well as with aperitivo, such as quiche and hard cheeses.

3 bottles x Fattoria di Sammontana San Firenze Chianti Superiore DOCG 2020

This Chianti is made from Sammontana's best and oldest Sangiovese vines, planted around 40 years ago. The grapes are destemmed and macerated in large concrete vats where for about 20 days. The wine is then pressed and transferred to old 225L barrels where it stays on its fine lees for roughly one year. Bottled with a tiny sulphite addition, unfined and unfiltered.

It has aromas of sour cherry and black olives on the nose, with a hint of mediterranean herbs. On the palate the tannis are soft yet a bit rustic.

Pairing suggestion: Perfect to pair with lamb or other game, pizza and tomato-based dishes - think Italian fare!
