In 2010, brother & sister duo Joana and António founded Maçanita Vinhos following an invitation from a local Douro family who had been inspired by the ambition and creativity of the sibling winemakers. While both contribute to the winery, the challenging Douro Valley has been Joana’s personal passion from the start. She even relocated with her children to the Porto area to be closer to the vineyards, allowing her to focus her renowned energy on growing her Douro career and nurturing Maçanita’s rising profile.

The Douro—established in 1756 as the world’s first officially demarcated wine region—is defined by a remarkable diversity of terroirs and exposures. To reflect this complexity, a vineyard classification system introduced between 1935-1947 ranks sites from A to F, with “A” vineyards representing the highest potential. These top-tier sites, often located closer to the river, are prized for producing wines of depth, concentration, and structure.

Sourced from an “A”-classified Douro vineyard, this wine pours a deep ruby-violet hue and opens with concentrated aromas of dark fruits layered with subtle herbal and floral nuances. The palate is rich and expressive, balancing ripe fruit concentration with powerful yet polished tannins, and carries through to a long, persistent finish.

93 Points - Jacobo García Andrade, Senior Editor

Pure aromas of violets, blackberries and crushed stones. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, evenly distributed, with polished tannins and lively acidity. Very well balanced despite the high alcohol. Drink now.
