Nestled at the foot of the Corton hillside in Aloxe-Corton, Château Corton Caroline is one of Burgundy’s most iconic landmarks. Built in the late 19th century atop 15th-century cellars, this listed monument is the region’s most photographed site after the Hospices de Beaune. Legend has it that Emperor Charlemagne once owned vineyards here in the 8th century and planted Chardonnay to keep his white beard unstained.
The estate’s seven hectares span thirteen prestigious appellations—including Corton, Corton-Charlemagne, Meursault, Volnay, and Pommard—each part of Burgundy’s mosaic of climats, where the expression of terroir has been refined for centuries.
Under the ownership of Caroline Frey, renowned oenologist and winegrower, Château Corton Caroline unites Burgundian tradition with a sustainable, precision-driven approach. With intentionally limited production, each wine is crafted to capture the purity and character of its origin.
Popes have described the wines of Savigny-lès-Beaune as “theological,” a fitting tribute to a village with deep historical roots. Home to vineyards long held by the Dukes of Burgundy, the Cistercians, and the Knights of Malta, Savigny-lès-Beaune is both one of the largest wine-growing villages in the Côte d’Or and one of the most storied. The lieu-dit Les Guettotes takes its name from the medieval term for lookout points used to survey the countryside and safeguard passing travellers.
The nose is immediately expressive, opening with generous aromas of ripe black fruits layered with warming spice. On the palate, the wine shows a beautifully supple texture, combining density and juiciness with impressive poise. Its exceptional balance gives it an appealing sense of harmony, allowing it to be enjoyed in its youth while still hinting at the depth and structure to evolve gracefully over time.
