Château de Montfaucon’s history dates back to the 11th century, when the estate’s first tower was built in a strategic bend of the Rhône River, directly across from the vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Wine has been produced here since the 15th century, and Montfaucon is recognized as one of the original eleven founding members of the early Côte du Rhône association on the river’s right bank, established to protect and uphold wine quality in the region.
In 1995, Rodolphe de Pins assumed stewardship of the family estate, rebuilding the winery and releasing his first vintage under the Château de Montfaucon name. Since then, the domaine has grown to more than 60 hectares, with vineyards that reflect two millennia of Southern Rhône viticultural heritage. Deeply committed to preserving this natural legacy, de Pins crafts balanced, harmonious wines that express an authentic Rhône identity.
This refined cuvée honours Baron Louis, the family ancestor who restored the early château, and is sourced from the estate’s finest old-vine parcels within the Lirac Cru appellation. It brings together the depth and generosity of Southern Rhône Cru wines with the finesse and elegance that define the Montfaucon style.
Freshness is a defining feature, evident on both the nose and the palate. Aromatically, the wine opens with an intense bouquet of red berries and floral notes, gradually revealing subtle hints of undergrowth with aeration. The palate is silky, fresh, and beautifully balanced, showing no signs of over-extraction. It finishes with impressive length, refined tannins, and lingering compote-like berry notes.
Pairs nicely alongside prime rib of beef with grilled vegetables.
