The Mönchhof (the “Monks House or Monks Court”), formerly a possession of the Cistercian Abbey at Himmerod, is one of the oldest wine estates in the Mosel Valley region of Germany. Three centuries after the monks built the vaulted cellars, which are still in use today, the monks completed the estate manor in 1509. After the secularization period, the Eymael family purchased the estate from Napoleon in 1804 at an auction in Paris.

The 2018 Mosel Slate Spätlese from the steep slopes around Ürzig owes its fine minerality to the blue Devon slates in which it is grown. The wine has an elegant bouquet of zesty lime citrus and floral notes of honeysuckle and white blossoms. The palate shows crunchy green apple, sliced pears with lightly herbal and flinty notes lasting into the finish. Tangy acidity balances the residual sweetness perfectly, creating a beautifully flavourful wine that is classic in style.

Serve this wine chilled as aperitif on your terrace or as companion for spicy dishes or seafood options.

Winemaker and co-founder Rob Cameron has a colourful winemaking background – learning his craft in unique destinations such as Cyprus, Bulgaria and Hungary before moving on to France, Spain and Italy. For him, the Invivo range is all about taking some of the elegance from the old world and putting that style into amazing grapes, all the while offering wines that are fun and a bit unique.

The nose on this Pinot Gris is bursting with cooked pears, and subtle candied citrus. The palate backs this up with sweet pear and apricot along with delicate white floral notes and soft texture. This wine offers silky drinkability and great balance leading into a clean and crisp finish.

Pinot Gris is an aromatic and versatile grape that pairs perfectly with many different dishes. As this style has a hint of sweetness, try this with a nice spicy curry to tame the heat!
