Full-Bodied & Smooth

Mas Carlot sits on 76 hectares of classic Costières de Nîmes terroir, where the Rhône meets the Mediterranean. Originally a 17th-century farm, the estate was brought back to life by the Blanc family in the 1960s and is now in the hands of Cyril Mares of Mas Bressades.

Named for the winemaker’s four children, Les Enfants Terribles is a bold, characterful red made from 80% old-vine Mourvèdre and 20% Syrah. Aged for 12 months in oak, it’s rich and layered, with blackberry, blueberry and cherry alongside savoury notes of truffle, tobacco and spice.

Full-bodied but beautifully balanced, this is the kind of Rhône red that wants something equally generous on the table. Pour it with slow-roasted lamb, steak frites, wild mushroom dishes or smoky roasted vegetables.

About the Winery

Mas Carlot

Mas Carlot is situated in the south of the Rhône Valley, extending across 76 hectares of pebbly land southeast of Nîmes. Originally a 17th century farm, this beautiful estate was resurrected in the 1960's by the Blanc family — it is currently run by Cyril Mares of the neighbouring and equally reputable property, Mas Bressades.

The appellation of Costières de Nîmes used to be considered part of eastern Languedoc but the climate, soil, topography and wine are far closer to those just over the river in the Southern Côtes du Rhône. It is now a region very much on the up and is widely recognized as a great source of excellent value wine.

91 points (2019) - David Lawrason

This appellation on the right bank of the Rhone near its mouth on the Mediterranean is known for deeply coloured, sturdy reds based on syrah and mourvedre. The nose is a bit pinched but shows black cherry and blackberry fruit, with licorice, violet, pepper and meaty notes. It is full bodied, quite dense and firm with tight tannic grip and some warmth (14%abv). Dried fruit/black olive character comes to the finish. The length is excellent. This needs some cellar time, best about 2030. Tasted August 2026
