Nicolas Potel is an iconic producer and pioneer in the Burgundy winemaking scene. He grew up in a family dedicated to wine; and after gaining some experience internationally, he started his own project in the late 90's. The Maison Roche de Bellene offers a complete range of carefully cultivated and versatile wines, often made from old vines. All of the Maison wines are made with respect to sustainable and natural farming practices, with as little intervention as necessary to showcase their individual terroirs.

Old vines Villages level Vosne Romanée gifts the richest of 2019 fruit off of vines aged 50-60 years of age picked mid-September on the 15th and other than being a Sunday in France not much else happened that day. What Vosne Romanée delivers more than anything else is glycerin and silky smooth palate texture, something the rest of Bellene’s ‘19s don’t achieve at this level. The perfume is appealing and charming but mouthfeel sets this wine apart. Poised, polished and upwardly modern, deftly structured and as far away from tannins that could ever be considered austere. Drink 2024-2031

Delivers the finesse and shadowy Morey smoulder for a grippy pinot noir, sneaky like its maker, confident and destined to be there for the long term. Nicolas Potel has held on to this 2016 and we thank him for that, from the low-yielding (with thanks to springs frosts and rains) yet powerful vintage (because of a very hot summer). The wine is still in infancy, tough juddering from a mechanical equine, a mudder that will find its stride just as it comes out of the last turn. On track for a mid to late decade run. Drink 2024-2029.
