Great Heart is the staff empowerment project of Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines, known for their multi-award winning Leeu Passant and Mullineux wineries. Aimed at improving the livelihoods of those who work for the company as well as their families, the Great Heart wine brand is collectively owned by the winery staff and a portion of all sales under this label go directly to them. They're committed to sustainable and ethical farming to preserve the natural environment & well-being of the community.

Grapes for the 2020 Great Heart Swartland Red came from dry farmed bush vine (goblet) parcels in the Swartland, aged 16-40 years. The palate is full but firm and fresh with lovely fruit, spice and length.

At the beginning of the 1900’s the Nuti family bought a small plot of land in a locality known as “La Regola”, in the town of Riparbella, (a place name found in the Florence land register dating back to the 1700’s), to produce a small amount of olive oil and wine for family consumption. From the small cellar under the house, which was called "cillieri", the first production of the "La Regola"  was born. After three generations in 1990, Luca the eldest son, obtained a degree in agriculture, deciding to transform the small family wine production into a company structured winery and began to plant other vineyards and market the first bottles.

In addition to the cultivation of native vines such as Sangiovese and Vermentino, the company has added French white and red grape vines to their production, among which Cabernet Franc is a stand out. This Tuscan blend offers an inviting nose of vanilla and currents opening into a very berry-driven palate with extended notes of  blackberries, dark cherries and figs. The wine closes with notes of dried herbs and ground coffee, sculpted by building tannins.

Pour this alongside roasted red meats, Fiorentina steak and aged cheeses (4-6 yrs).

Though Chateau Maurac had winemaking roots in the Medoc before it was taken over by Claude Gaudin in 1998, it's from this time that the winery began the long but important process of restructuring its vineyards. These efforts were made to unite both grapes and terroir and today the property benefits from this work, extending over approximately 15 hectares in the Haut-Médoc as well as a few plots in Saint-Estèphe. The wines are brought up using a minimally interventionist approach, bottled without fining and light filtration.

Usually used as a complement to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot is truly the star at Chateau Maurac. Based on a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cab, the main wine of the estate offers depth, freshness and soft tannins.

A great match with the proteins & fats in grilled or roasted meats, along with dishes cooked in rich, savoury sauces.

Sister’s Run is serious fun and serious wine. The talented, young winemaker Elena Brooks (of Dandelion Vineyards and Heirloom Vineyards fame) wears steel cap work boots every day of course, but carries a pair of high heels in back of the ute for emergencies - like last minute invitations to accept trophies at gala wine show dinners and the like!

A perfect Cabernet entry with alert & bright fruit. Direct, full-bodied with rich mouth filling soft fruit, especially cedar and cassis. Juicy round blackberry sweetness and red currant tartness are tempered by taut, building tannins.

This is a wine for grilled lamb burgers or steaks done medium-rare.

At the Southerly point of Africa, along the Cape South Coast is the coolest wine region - Elgin. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean at an altitude of 450m along the Southern ridge lies the unique Iona vineyards surrounded by the Unesco certified Kogelberg Biosphere. Iona's approach is hands off and the land is farmed according to organic and biodynamic practices with a particular focus on ensuring the health of the soils whilst pests are kept under control by the resident flock of geese that roam the vineyards.

The One Man Band represents the notion of constant endeavour – the role of the musician bravely playing his many instruments is a reminder of the distinct vineyards and endeavour dedicated to growing the various varietals that are meticulously blended each year making this focussed and harmonious cool-climate red blend. This wine reveals peppery spice and velvety tannins, with layers of bramble and black cherry fruit.

Pair this unique red blend with a variety of dishes, including pork belly and braised chicken, pasta marinara, grilled aubergine and portabella mushrooms .
