The Brassknocker Central Otago Pinot Noir is richly aromatic and expressive, offering notes of ripe cherry, dark plum, red berries, floral tones, oak spice, and mocha. Crafted from separately harvested vineyard parcels, the wine undergoes cold soaking, wild and cultured yeast fermentation, extended skin contact, and partial ageing in seasoned French oak to build complexity while preserving freshness. On the palate it is supple and balanced, with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, polished finish that makes it approachable now while also suitable for further cellaring.

Cordero San Giorgio is a new beginning in Oltrépo-Pavese for three siblings who grew up surrounded by their family’s vines at the legendary Vietti Estate in Castiglione Falletto in Barolo. The siblings Francesco, Lorenzo, and Caterina Cordero, are grandchildren of Luciana Vietti & Alfredo Currado, one of the pioneers of the first Barolo crus and considered the “father of Arneis.” Their father is Mario Cordero, Alfredo and Luciana’s son-in-law, who was the company’s co-owner from the beginning of the ‘80s until 2016 when it was sold.

The Oltrepò Pavese is a hilly triangle of land in Lombardy, embraced by Piedmont, Liguria, and Emilia-Romagna. A territory dedicated to the cultivation of vines and the culture of wine for centuries: a land of both cultural and gastronomic encounter and exchange. Cordero San Giorgio is in the town of Santa Giuletta, and focuses on working with Pinot Nero, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay.

Tiamat is a Pinot Nero that is an expression of finesse. Elegant aromas and delicate on the palate.

In Europe, Italy is the fourth largest producer of Pinot Nero, with more than 5,000 hectares of vineyards. Lombardy is the main producing region, holding over half of the national surface. In particular, the Oltrepò Pavese is the Lombard territory that hosts the most hectares of pinot nero, making it the third largest production area in the world after Champagne and Burgundy.

The story of the success of pinot nero in Oltrepò Pavese dates back to the 19th century, as the first plantings of the vine in Oltrepò land date back to the second half of the 1800s in Rocca de' Giorgi. The soil composition plays an essential role for each wine, as it is the purest expression of the territory from which it originates. The varied texture of the soil of Oltrepò, rich in marl, limestone, galestro, and chalk, offers many terroirs different from each other.

The Tiamat Pinot Nero comes from 9 different parcels of pinot nero that surround the winery. Each plot is vinified and aged separately until bottling. Half of the grapes ferment in stainless steel, while the other half goes into 2/3-year-old barriques. It then ages for about 9 months, and stays in bottle for another 9 months before release.

This is very versatile wine, good pairing for first courses with meat sauces, and perfect with main courses based on grilled and roasted red meats. It has fruity aromas, especially small red fruits, along with notes of undergrowth and a slight spiciness characterize the nose. Fresh with light sapidity, and pleasant soft tannins on the palate.

Domaine de Pellehaut

"Pellehaut" gets its name from the Roman or medieval word pila (meaning any kind of solid, pillar-like construction). The presence two kilometres away of mosaics decorated with vines at the Gallo-Roman site of Séviac bears witness to the fact that vines were already grown at Pellehaut in Roman times.

Pellehaut follows a traditional, low-intervention approach to winemaking, using native yeasts from its own vineyards and avoiding thermovinification in favor of cooler fermentation to preserve varietal aromas. After fermentation, the wines are either kept cool in stainless steel tanks or aged for up to two years in fine-grain oak barrels from the Allier forests. Though not part of a prestigious appellation, the estate takes pride in its diverse range of 16 wines, aiming to offer authentic expressions of Gascogne that inspire curiosity and pleasantly surprise wine enthusiasts.
