Husband and wife duo Ilya and Nadia started Leaning Post winery in Niagara over 10 years ago. Initially a virtual set up, the winery now located on Highway 8, has become a reference producer in Niagara.

This blended wine (61% Merlot, 39& Cabernet Franc) always over-delivers massively for the price. Blackberry, cassis, raspberry and mulberry instantly appear on the nose, with lilac, cracked white pepper, licorice and pancetta following closely behind. On the palate, the warmth and weight of the 2020 vintage is immediately evident, with a very broad and weighty mid-palate featuring plum, wild-blueberry, and strawberry layered over dark- chocolate and graphite with wisps of herbs-de-provence and black olive fading in and out.

The powerful but soft tannins make it satisfying to drink now with a good decant, but it will certainly age well over the next 5-8 years. Great with burgers, cured meat, and hard cheese.

A blend of fruit from 4 different vineyards from the best appellations across Niagara, the 2021 Pinot Noir is the epitome of the Leaning Post style. This wine combines classic “P(inot)-funk” flavours of candy cane beet root, earth, leaves and dirt with stunning bing cherry and raspberry.  Made in a style that is slightly more approachable than our single-vineyard Pinots, it still shows incredible depth and complexity. The incredibly supple mouthfeel, medium body and balanced acidity frame exceptional flavour intensity, leading to a long, sweeping finish the ends on a decidedly mineral and crunchy note.

Pair this Pinot Noir with smoky glazed ham or easy lentil curry.

This wine will age for 4 to 5 years.  

Spicy & Tropical

Husband and wife duo Ilya and Nadia started Leaning Post winery in Niagara over 10 years ago. Initially a virtual set up, the winery now located on Highway 8, has become a reference producer in Niagara.

Harvested on September 25, 2021, the grapes were destemmed, into concrete tanks where it went through a spontaneous fermentation. It remained in concrete and aged on skins for 25 days, then it was gently pressed into clay amphora (17%) and stainless steel (83%). This wine was racked only a handful of times prior to being bottled unfiltered on April 13, 2022.

This wine represents the evolving nature of wine in Niagara. Orange marmalade, jalapeño pepper jelly, and passionfruit dominate the nose and palate, while elderflower honey, cream and lemon dominate the palate with a rich and oily texture. It is all tied together with bracing acidity, gorgeous texture and a seam of fine tannin. Chill and drink as it warms to reveal new facets of its unique personality.

Enjoy with fish tacos or fish and chips.

Zesty & Mineral

Mature vines really display the wonderful minerality of the Twenty Mile Bench in Vineland. This Chardonnay has fantastic peach, pear and hazelnut aromas while on the palate, pineapple, mandarin orange, lemon curd, and crème-brulee play off a mineral base. A round, mouth-filling texture is balanced by good acidity leading to a long, supple finish.

Drink with lemon roasted chicken, semi-soft cheese, and freshly baked bread. It will age well for the next 5-8 years if you can wait.

Douro, the first demarcated wine region in the world, was registered in 1756. However, such is the variety of terroirs and exposures in the Douro that one might say there are many Douros. This is why, between the years of 1935 and 1947 a system of grading was introduced classifying the vineyards in this region from A to F, being “A” vineyards the ones with best potential for production of Port Wines showing superior maturation of the grapes and generally located closer to the river where most of the concentration and power, which characterizes the Douro wines, is found. This is our letter A Douro wine.

Deep ruby-violet color, showing a concentrated aroma of dark fruits combining with subtle herbal and floral notes. In the palate, concentrated ripe fruit contrast with powerful but well-rounded tannins ending in a persistent finish.

Both siblings contribute to Maçanita Vinhos, but the challenging Douro Valley has been Joana’s passion project since the start, and Joana and her children even moved to the Porto area to be closer to the winery and vineyards. This wine comes from a collection of parcels located in Carlão, Cima Corgo, with vineyards aged between 80 and 92 years, planted at an altitude of 510 meters. The soils of these vineyards are a transition between schist and granite, offering a unique terroir that reflects the diversity and richness of this Douro subregion.

The composition of Os Canivéis includes a blend of 11 traditional varieties, with a manual harvest conducted in 18 kg boxes and a winemaking process that combines partial destemming with whole clusters. The wine undergoes a 40-day maceration and is aged for 18 months in neutral French oak barrels, allowing its freshness and authentic character to shine through.

With a light ruby-violet color, Os Canivéis Tinto presents aromas of fresh fruit and dark chocolate. On the palate, it offers a creamy entry with firm and prolonged tannins, displaying an elegant structure. Ideal for pairing with dark meats, Asian cuisine, and spicy cheeses.

With a very limited production, it is an enological gem from the Douro, reflecting the artisanal approach and dedication to the winemaking tradition of this region.

This Reserva is the result of mixing the experience of the two winemakers, brother and sister, lots of “discussions”, lots of fun.  All grapes are hand-picked into 18kg cases. In the winery cold soak, spontaneus fermentation, post maceration on skins for 26 days. Aged 18 months in neutral french oak barrels.

Deep violet in colour, Maçanita Reserva Tinto offers a concentrated aroma of red fruits and round tannins. On the palate, the finish is intense and persistent, showing the depth and character of the wine.

Maçanita’s Letra F reflects the ever-evolving landscape in the wine world: a fresh, field-blend wine hailing from some of the most intriguing vineyard sites in the Douro. A field blend of more than 20 red and white grape varieties from 70- to 110-year-old vines. 70% red and 30% white grapes. They are planted to granitic soils at an average altitude of 500m (1,600 ft) to 730m altitude (2,400 ft) elevation.

Ruby color. On the nose, red fruit tinged with white flowers and mineral notes. On the palate, fresh and lively, with bright acidity, showing intensity and concentration of aroma. Tannins are long, fine, and grippy, guiding this lighter-bodied red to a very saline finish.

This is a fresh, balanced rendition of a classic Douro red. Preserving the intrinsic bent toward the richness and power of the Douro, all while showcasing balance, minerality and elegance. Some of the vines tended at an altitude of 200m to 540 m altitude in schist soils, and others at 600m altitude in granitic soils elevation, both in Cima Corgo, Douro. This is a subregion that experiences extreme highs and lows from a temperature standpoint, with some of the greatest day-night temperature delta in Portugal. As such the fruit experiences extended hangtime.

Deep violet. On the nose, redolent of black and blue fruit tinged with violets and wet stone. On the palate, rich but balanced, with fresh acidity coupling the dark blueberry and plum fruit. Finishes long and spicy, with a big dose of flowers and minerals.

Made with a blend of traditional Douro grapes. After a long period of maceration, the fermentation took place, with the help of indigenous yeasts,  in stainless steel vats. Then, the 60% of the batch has been transferred to French oak barrels, where it has stayed in contact with fine lees, for 9 months, and it was subjected to a regular stirring, before being mixed, filtered and bottled.

A unique white that goes well with a variety of soft cheeses. Lightly pungent, with a hint of Epoisses cheese, macadamia nuts and white mushrooms. Supple, subtle and attractively nutty on the palate, with a medium to full body and fresh but creamy acidity. Very composed and long.

Maçanita’s Douro Branco exemplifies the confluence of richness and elegant minerality that is the hallmark of Douro whites. The indigenous Viosinho provides the backbone to this mineral driven wine, showcasing the slate soil and high altitude plantings that fuel this project. Fermented and aged all in stainless steel, Antonio and Joana very capably maintain the freshness and acidity in this wine, yielding a wine of purity and balance.

Bright yellow-gold. On the nose, fresh floral aromas commingle with ripe yellow and green orchard fruit and a touch of slate. On the palate, bright and juicy, with mouth filling concentration and refreshing acidity. A core of green and gold apple, pear and white pepper are wrapped with pleasant floral and mineral flavours on the long finish. Maçanita Douro Branco is a beautiful pair for roasted or grilled poultry, as well as richer seafood dishes.

Blank Canvas is the personal wine range of husband and wife team, Matt Thomson and Sophie Parker-Thomson, MW. With a focus on Marlborough, Syrah from Hawkes Bay and Pinot Noir from Central Otago, the Blank Canvas wines are exciting, small-batch and increasingly recognized as the avant-garde of New Zealand wine. Every effort is put into making wines that are distinctive and cerebral, unencumbered by a regime or badge and are not beholden to tradition. Every vineyard, variety and vintage is approached as if it is a blank canvas.

In the true expression of cool-climate Syrah, this wine exudes freshly cracked black pepper, crushed violets, red and black forest fruits and savoury smoky nuances. It has crunchy lifted acidity which carries the defined, fine-grain tannins and background of spicy, savoury oak.

Fruity & Floral

Established in 1996 the family owned, and managed vineyard produces wine with flavours that are a direct reflection of the Gladstone region. Ancient stony, alluvial soils
and a cool climate allows the grapes to grow in harmony in their environment. Sustainable practices and minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery allow our wines to display their distinctive single vineyard characteristics.

The harvested fruit was processed quickly into tank to retain the vibrant aromas and fresh acidity. The tank portion is fermented slow and cool to retain the varietal characters of Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are aged on light yeast lees for nine months before blending, fining and filtration.

A fragrant lift of spiced stone fruit, tropical fruits with a hint of dark herb notes. Packed with flavour, a core of ripe nectarine and lemon-lime acidity, finishing with passionfruit and blackcurrant.
