Spring is officially here, but not all of us want to say farewell to red wine yet. These fresh and bright offerings will make the transition easier while still enjoying your favourite rouge offerings.

Delivery timeline:
It requires four full cases of each wine in order for us to build and fulfill four mixed cases. This process usually takes about 7-10 business days but may vary.

Each case includes three bottles of the following wines:

3 bottles x Château Plaisance Les Palues Supérieur 2016 (BordeauxFrance)
90 points - Wine Align

Red | Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot

An elegantly matured Bordeaux Superieur with surprising persistence. Named after the limestone soils ('palus') of the vineyards, this blend of 70% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot is showing lovely earthy, leather and licorice notes along with cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant. A stunning value.

Pairing suggestion: Pair with rack of lamb and braised fennel.

3 bottles x 2019 Villa Calcinaia Chianti Classico DO (Tuscany, Italy)
Red | Sangiovese
92 Points - Wine Align

Villa Calcinaia is located in the heart of Chianti Classico, near the village of Greve-in-Chianti. This Tuscan estate has been home to the Capponi family since 1524.

Calcinaia's Chianti Classico is very aromatic and savoury, with bright red fruit and hints of roses, violets and dried leaves. On the palate it is supple and dry, with round fruit flavours, refreshing acidity and well integrated tannins.

Pairing suggestion: Chianti wines pair excellently with fatty dishes and stands up to tomato sauce dishes, such as pizza and pasta! It also pairs terrifically with rich pieces of meat: from cured meat boards to the regional classic bistecca alla Fiorentina.

3 bottles x Bozeto de Exopto (Rioja, Spain)
Red | Garnacha, Tempranillo

92 points - Robert Parker

This Garnacha focused wine is called Bozeto de Exopto which translated from Latin means “sketch” or “draft”. As the name implies, it is their “beginning” wine.  The blend is largely Garnacha (Yerga-Agudo) with Tempranillo (Abalos) and some Graciano (Yerga) all of which are naturally fermented and then aged for 6 months in concrete and 5,000L oak vats  for 6 months before being bottled.

Deep red with a bright rim. Spicy cherry and black raspberry on the nose, with brisk mineral and floral overtones. Juicy and focused, offering sweet raspberry and blackberry flavours and snappy acidity. Impresses with precision rather than power, and finishes with juicy berry flavours and good persistence.

Pairing suggestion: Enjoy this wine with grilled meats, roasted turkey and cured cheeses.

3 bottles x Rue Naujac Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 33 Columbia Valley (Washington, U.S.)
Red | Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points - Wine Align

Born and raised in the New World but influenced by his time in Bordeaux, this Columbia Valley Cab represents Nicholas’s story in a bottle - New World terroir meets old world "savoir faire".

Bold and full-bodied, with balance and complexity. Showing aromas of black and red fruits, toasted herbs, graphite and leather. A mouthful of ripe dark fruit consisting of blackberry and black currant combined with notes of spice and dark chocolate. A fruit-forward finish offering a balanced and integrated tannin structure. This Cab is a blend of two different vineyards, one in Wahluke Slope AVA; the other in Horse Heaven Hills AVA.

Pairing suggestion: Pair with BBQ meats, rich stews or steak.

About the Winery

Pearce Family Wines

In the early 2000's Nicholas Pearce was exposed to the garagiste movement in Bordeaux and was particularly inspired by négociants like Jean Luc Thunevin (Saint Emilion), James Sichel (Margaux) and Nicolas Potel (Beaune) from Burgundy.

After returning home to Ontario and starting his own wine company, he has had a hand in making 10+ wines in two hemispheres, 3 countries and 5 different appellations since the 2013 vintage.

Villa Calcinaia

Villa Calcinaia is situated in the centre of Chianti Classico near the town of Greve-in-Chianti. This historic estate has been home to the Counts Capponi since 1524, and is maintained by Sebastiano Capponi and his brother Niccolo. In 1992, Count Sebastiano Capponi became the first in the history of the family to manage the winery personally, giving a new life to the vineyards and the cellar.

The family owns 200 hectares of land planted with olive trees, vines and pine trees. Organic farming is the standard at Villa Calcinaia where 75 acres of vineyard are planted with Sangiovese, Merlot, Canaiolo, Grechetto, Vernaccia, Trebbiano, and Malvasia. Through every vintage, the wines are crafted with food in mind. They are balanced, elegant, perfumed, and savoury yet refreshing with restrained vigour and intensity that ensures longevity.
