Fresh & Spicy

When Bàrbara split from her family winery in 2012 to begin her project, she said that, along with the vineyards inherited from her mother, all she needed was a roof and a floor.  Trispol means “floor” in Mallorquìn, and this red wine is one of two top cuvées produced by Mesquida Mora. Trispol is the companion to her other cuvée Sòtil , which means “roof.”

Trispol is a cuvée made with the native grape callet, planted by her grandfather, and with cabernet and syrah, which were first introduced to Mallorca by Barbara's parents over 40 years ago in their historic Son Porquer vineyard. The vineyard has been farmed biodynamically since 2007.

Trispol is a complexly structured red wine. Like all of the special cuvées of this artisanal winery, Trispol is produced with low-intervention in limited quantities and is designed to improve in bottle.

After a manual harvest, the grapes macerate and ferment separately with indigenous yeasts before being blended. The wine is then racked partially into French and American oak, partly into a 5000L foudre. Aged for 1 year before bottling.

Spicy red fruit with touches of vanilla and cocoa and light pyracinic notes producing a wine that is full-bodied, fresh, long and persistent in the mouth.

Pair this wine with date-and-soy-braised short ribs, or miso-mushroom risotto.

About the Winery

Mesquida Mora

Bàrbara Mesquida Mora established the groundbreaking Mesquida Mora winery in Mallorca in 2012 near the town of Porreres, producing wines in the DO Plà i Llevant and Vins de la Terra de Mallorca designations in the southern and eastern areas of the island.

Bàrbara’s wines form a rich mosaic recalling the diversity of Mallorca varieties while also representing the history of her pioneering winemaking family, with her own unique futuristic vision. Upon leaving behind the winery created by her pioneering great-grandfather in 1945 in Porreres, Bàrbara started her project from scratch with historic vineyards inherited from her mother. Previously, Bàrbara managed the family winery for eight years, from 2004 until 2012, and was one of Spain’s first Demeter biodynamic certifications in 2007.

Bàrbara has not only been a passionate practitioner of organic and biodynamic viticulture for more than two decades; she has also introduced a regenerative agriculture approach through encouraging biodiversity within her estate vineyards. Prior to her winemaking career, Bàrbara studied Medieval literature and Catalan language in Barcelona. Comfortably multilingual culture, art, and language are like air and water for her, informing every aspect of her work. Bàrbara is among the vanguard of a wave of young producers recuperating and contributing to the unique cultural and viticultural matrix of traditional Mallorcan agriculture.

Callet, Manto Negro, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon from Porreres and Felanixt villages. It is cultivated following biodynamic principles. Separate fermentation of the different varieties and post-fermentation maceration according to the varieties. The MLF is carried out in stainless-steel tanks. Aged for 12 months in 5,000-litre vats and 225-litre French oak barrels. Tasted blind. I can smell the oak over an intense fruit expression. Juicy texture, soft tannins and evolving flavours. Honest fruit expression with a floral touch. This is a pure and respectful wine. A project to be followed closely.
