Bright raspberries and red cherries on the nose, colored with notes of roses, ripe watermelon and dry soil. Medium-bodied with lightly firm tannins and lots of immediacy on the palate. This is hyper-tense and brimming with exciting, youthful energy. Super length already. Exuberant and exciting to taste now, and you might well be tempted. But this is a classy Cannubi for the cellar. Best from 2024 or 2025.

Barolo's most famous hill is showcasing its pedigree in this stunning 2018 Barolo from Réva. Its southern-facing, terraced slopes absorb sunshine, gracefully maturing the exposed grapes on the vines. This incarnation is exceptionally expressive and exhibits impressive balance and aromatic character. Features a wildly complex botanical nose along with flavours of fennel, sasparilla, tomato, plum and marbled cherry The depth and progressive layering flavours is a highly engaging treat on the palate. Ethereal properties seem to lift the wine off the tongue and land it softly in a repeatedly teasing fashion. Tannins are firm but there is a nervy brightness to balance. Lofty with excellent length. So much less to worry about in 2018, less decision making about canopy management and more than anything about when the pick. The vintage was not a hottest on record by any stretch and yet late September allowed for extended hang-time to bring Cannubi into a world of its own. Réva grows the “Lampia” clone of nebbiolo on soils of Tortonian, Elvezian and Sant’Agata marls. The selection is done on the sorting table, followed by spontaneous fermentation and maceration in truncated conical vats for 35 days. Piedmontazine though not an extended one and one sip sends you off into dreamland. The transparent beauty and reflective demure of grape and cru are so seamlessly captured there’s just nothing to pull you out of the revelry. Organza texture, silkiest of silk road travelled tannins and a purpose ingrained, for reasons known and also those yet to be known. Impartiality is off the table because if you do not fall in love with this Barolo then you are not letting it happen. Set your palate free and feel Cannubi. Drink 2025-2036. Tasted May 2022.

This is a transcendent expression of nebbiolo from the Cannubi MGA. Power and poise coalesce in this perfumed, pale as a diaphanous veil, sublimely silky, yet commanding wine. Threads of cherries, plums, rose petals, anise, cloves, and leather are held together by firm acidity, georgette silk tannins, and glittering filaments of salinity. There is a pleasantly diffused warmth from alcohol that lingers. Length is outstanding with a finish of delicacy and amaranthine charm. Best 2025-2035.
