Proudly family owned, The Borthwick vineyard is an established site situated in Gladstone, the heart of the Wairarapa. Producing quality wine for over a decade, Paddy, an experienced wine maker, has gained a reputation for producing consistently great wines. The twenty seven hectares of vines bordering the Ruamahunga River are growing on stony, free draining, alluvial soils, with a micro climate giving warm daily temperatures, cool nights and low rainfall; perfect conditions for producing distinctive, quality wines.

The wine is instantly appealing on the nose showing lemon curd, lime sorbet, apple blossom and grapefruit aromas, leading to a brilliantly focused palate that is linear and charmingly elegant. It is juicy, bright and finely textured, superbly structured by mouth-watering acidity.

A perfect pairing for spicy Thai dishes, Middle Eastern and Mexican cuisine. It's also a great match with salads, along with poultry and pork dishes.

Pristine and elegantly expressed, the wine shows green apple, white flesh nectarine and lemon pith characters on the nose. It is equally charming and delicate on the palate with fine texture and whispering sweetness backed by crisp acidity, leading to a persistent vibrant finish. At its best: now to 2026.

From stone terraces overlooking the Rumahanga River is Wairarapa this single-vineyard riesling is relatively dry and pushes near 13 per cent generous alcohol. Shows a sulphury and flinty, almost petrol-driven nose and flirts with lime juice all the way through. Clean, crisp and really well made, perfect for everything south asian, southeast asian and pretty much any cuisine from Asian major, or minor. One of the most versatile bottles of riesling you are likely to ever encounter. Drink 2020-2023. Tasted November 2020.
