Ricardo Carreiro founded Coto de Gomariz in the seventies, when he managed to return to his land after emigrating to South America like so many other Galicians. His dream was to make wines and restore Gomariz's prestige as a historical vineyard. Known as the "Golden Mile" of the Ribeiro since the 10th century, Gomariz is the oldest Viticultural Reserve in the Iberian Peninsula and has exceptional characteristics for growing grapes.

12 is Coto de Gomariz's sweet wine. With only 8.9% alcohol and a killer acidity (9,02 gr/L of total acidity versus 80 gr/L of sugar!), this wine is made from Treixadura grapes grown in a small plot in the north of the Ribeiro D.O.

On the nose, it delivers fragrant aromas of stone fruit, candied orange and tangerine zest; accompanied by notes of green tea, jasmine flowers and honeycomb wax. The palate is citrusy, fresh, sweet yet vibrant, with a beautiful roundness and minerality from the granitic soils where the vines thrive.

Have fun pairing this wine with dim sum accompanied with spicy sauces or thai food. It is also excellent with cheeses and desserts.

The sweet white 2019 Gomariz 12 is produced with Treixadura grapes and has a lot more of everything, starting with nuance and flavors and followed by alcohol, acidity and even residual sugar. I guess the grapes were picked riper (2019 was a better overall vintage than 2018), and the result is a livelier wine, integrated and fresh, clean and expressive. A notable improvement. The parameters resemble a German Riesling: 8.9% alcohol, pH of 3.09, nine grams of acidity (tartaric) and 90 grams of sugar. - Luis Gutérrez.
