Mas Codina has been in the same family for generations. They have adopted organic farming practices promoting natural processes and seeking a balanced ecosystem. All because of their love for land and tradition. There are currently 40 hectares of vineyards that are being organically farmed.

A joint venture benefitting the winery employees of the Mullineux and Leeu Family Wines, this project is aimed at improving the livelihood of the staff and their families through the profits generated by Great Heart sales. The label features a Cape Wagtail bird that bears a marking that resembles a heart on its chest plumage and is known for its acts of selflessness and courage in assisting others in South African folklore. Great Heart's red blend is typically led by syrah and this incarnation is notably expressive of the grape's peppery and generous nature. Full-bodied but not heavy, this engaging blend features delicate oak and fruit-derived spice, an abundance of black fruit and no shortage of personality. Lithe tannins, an undercurrent of freshness make for a gratifying textural experience. Excellent length. Best now to 2026. Tasted Feburary 2023.

This is not a highly effusive or rich wine - more linear, taut and firm with all its power saved until the end where acids and minerals collide and go for extra laps. The nose is lemony, a touch reductive, flinty and vaguely nutty with a hint of evergreen. It is medium bodied, racy and intense with outstanding length. a great palate experience. Tasted January 2023

A characterful and good-value drop from this old family-owned winery, this 100% old-vine (90-year-old) Chardonnay is fermented in ex-Condrieu barrels, then matured for around 20 months with regular topping up. Rich and buttery, it offers tropical notes of pineapple and mango alongside yellow plum and a spicy, mineral tang. Savoury, mushroomy and floral at the end, it combines lovely texture with good acidity. Enjoy this with scallops or roast chicken.

Radford Dale

Alex Dale who owns and manages both projects is an Englishman who grew up spending summers in Burgundy, France. He moved there in his late teens to follow a passion for winemaking and also opened a wine bar in Beaune. He lived in Burgundy for many years before moving to South Africa in 1998, starting Radford Dale with Ben Radford, an Australian. What an experience! Will you love it? Who knows? But it is one these wine that engages and pushes boundaries. The basics are that Black Rock is a five-grape Rhone-inspired blend with 60% syrah in the driver's seat. It is from the arid Swartland that is perfectly poised for this genre. It pours fairly deep ruby-garnet with a touch of maturity. The nose shows all kinds of spice-driven complexity - pepper, cinnamon, cedar, along with wood smoke and licorice. And for fruit? Expect dried cherry/currant and olive. It is full bodied, intense, warm and very energized. A touch volatile but there is so much else going that the VA is hardly crashing the party. It is firm, fairly tannic and mineral, with excellent to outstanding length. Tasted Feb 2023

Gilvesy Pincészet

Hungarian expat Róbert Gilvesy moved back to his homeland from Canada, and began building the Gilvesy winemaking empire on the former Esterházy estate on Szent György Hill. Thanks to years of hard work, the Hegymagas-based facility now includes a modern building complex and about 13 hectares of vineyards, in addition to being the home of the family. The area is shaped by 6 million years old volcanoes, where indigenous and international varieties grow organically.
Robert’s absolute admiration for nature and the terroir translates into an immense respect for the environment. By farming using organic practices, the soils and the vines stay healthy. In the winery, by letting nature take its course without controlling the processes, and using local resources, such as Hungarian oak barrels, Gilvesy promotes and protects the Balaton region.

Matías Riccitelli

Matías started his boutique winery in 2009, located in Las Compuertas at 1100 meters above sea level. It is the highest area of Lujan de Cuyo, and here he tends 20 hectares of ungrafted old vineyards. Matías also works with small, independent growers that own their lands at the bottom of the Andes halfway between 1000 and 1700 meters above sea level - in Gualtallary, Chacayes, Altamira and La Carrera.
All harvests are conducted by hand and fermentation takes place in small concrete vats and concrete eggs. Purity and delicacy in winemaking are prized by Matías and great care is taken in preserving the fruit’s singularity in order to obtain vibrant wines.

Blackberry with some plum and dried tobacco on the nose, following through to a full body with tight, medium-chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Still a bit tight now, but will show even more beautifully with a little bottle age. Try after 2021.

The floral and fruit-driven 2020 Hey Malbec! is young and juicy, very drinkable, varietal and balanced, from a warm year when they managed to contain the ripeness. The palate is round and fleshy. Very good.

About the Winery
Domaine Muré

The Muré family has been winegrowers in the region of Rouffach since 1650. In 1935, Alfred Muré, René’s grandfather, bought 32 acres of family-monopole vineyard name Clos St. Landelin, an area that has been described as the best of Alsace Grand Cru since the 7th Century.
Today, René Muré, the 11th generation of the family, along with his children, Véronique and Thomas, are responsible for running their exceptional Grand Cru vineyard and neighbouring terroirs using biodynamic methods. Until this day, they persist in hand-picking every single grape, and focus on crafting wines that preserve the family’s credo. The resulting wines are some of Alsace's finest – powerful, elegant, and age-worthy.

Where is the lobster? The very complex mirabelle-tart and spice nose pulls you into this stunning dry riesling that beautifully balances vibrant acidity and ripeness that borders on the exotic. Very straight and long finish that’s got a lot of mineral subtlety. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.

Wine Anorak

A single-vineyard wine, from the most western vineyard, at 280 m (the highest). Wild ferment, and aged in large Hungarian oak barrels (1000 litres, older). This was the last fermented, and because the vintage was compressed they had to use a stainless steel fermenter where it wasn’t possible to do whole-bunch at all. Juicy, spicy and with some black cherry aromatics: sweetly aromatic and enticing. The palate has nice focus and concentration with good acidity under the supple black cherry fruit. Really expressive and vital with sleek, smooth black fruits and hints of tar and citrus peel. Nice black cherry and blackberry fruit. Lovely floral elegance to this wine. This improved greatly being opened in advance.
