This product is part of the LCBOs Brilliant Baettig Exclusive Online Offer - Quantities Limited. 

Francisco Baettig and Carlos de Carlos cut their teeth in the wine industry as part of the well known Errázuriz operation, where they worked together for many years. Inspired by their mutual love of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the talented enologist and savvy businessman branched out to create Vinos Baettig. Produced in small batches and sold as limited editions to selected buyers, their wines have swiftly become some of the most interesting & highly lauded among the emerging talents of Chile.

This unique wine is sourced from a combination of parcels from cool areas located in the Coastal Range of D.O Maule that deliver lively wines with tremendous fruit intensity. Los Compadres (co-fathers) refers to the friendship and partnership with growers of old vine Cabernet Sauvignon that have trusted Vinos Baettig with grapes coming from the best lots of dry farmed vineyards. These special parcels are close in term of quality and style providing different components to Vinos Baettig Cabernet Sauvignon.

The wine opens up with alluring aromas of blackcurrants and raspberries, quickly allowing notes of mint leaves and cigar box to unfold alongside the fruit. Full-bodied on the palate without feeling heavy, there's excellent concentration of ripe fruit, tea leaves and black olive tapenade that tempers the sturdy tannins. Sprightly acidity underscores the wine with freshness and helps carry the fruit and gentle spices into the finish. 

The robustness of Cab Sauv will match nicely with meat-based pasta dishes such as lasagna, baked ziti or ragu/bolognese sauce.

About the Winery

Vinos Baettig

Francisco Baettig and Carlos de Carlos have been friends for more than 20 years and share a passion for high-quality wines that are genuine and connected to the land where they are made.  

Their families arrived in Traiguén and Purén from Switzerland in the 19th century, where they worked in agriculture, surrounded by volcanoes, lakes and forests, silos, livestock, wagons, and wheat fields. 
Francisco and Carlos' passion for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, together with their love for the land of their ancestors, was the inspiration for making their own wines that pay homage to these beloved terroirs. After studying the soil and climate in Traiguén for several years, they chose a plateau with volcanic soil between the Quino and Traiguén Rivers and planted vines in 2013.

From the secano interior dry farming region in Maule was made with grapes from 80-year-old Pais vines grafted with Cabernet and aged for 10 months in 20% new oak. Purple with a ruby sheen. The expressive nose offers fresh black currant and plum plus hints of spice, gentle notes from the aging process, cigar box and hints of violet. In the mouth, it is delicate and energetic with refined tannins and precise, characterful grip. The juicy, rich flavours are shored up by the freshness. A nuanced, energetic wine.
